Hey folks,

I'm thinking of trying out Necromunda, and my opponent is a youngster (11). There's a dizzying array of gangs out there...

Could you recommend the most basic, vanilla gangs, with the least amount of special equipment, special rules, etc. I'd like to make two very boring gangs (a leader, maybe someone with a cool weapon, and a handful of same-same boring goons).

I basically want to make this as approachable as possible, and basically just play with the least amount of rules possible. But it's been years since I've played, and I really don't want to turn off my kid with tons of crap you need to look up, check, etc. So yea. No vehicles just yet.

I play...

Sigh.

Who am I kidding? I only paint these days...

Orlocks are a solid, general gang with decent shooting and some melee capabilities. Goliaths are melee monsters with some shooting. These two as basic as gangs get in this new version of Necromunda.

You should still be able to find soft-cover rulebooks from Underhive or Hive War which should be basic enough to be approachable.

GW are releasing a new rulebook hardback in another week or two, so that should be good for rules. If you can find a Gangs of the Underhive book, that has all the starter rules for each of the house gangs.

If your son finds one he likes you can get the House of [x] book for that gang, and you should be all set.

And I second the vote for Orlocks as the most vanilla gang. But you might want to get the GotU book first and let him pick whichever looks coolest.
