And is there a way to convert/mod the GW plastic kit to look as good?

It's doing me head in - the Joytoy one is wider and slightly differently proportioned, and IMHO those differences make the kit look tons better somehow? Whereas the GW one just looks meh

compare to this

its pretty different.
kind of like the same idea but different model.

the joytoy legs are different the gut/coffin doesnt stick out as far or is at a different angle and there is no crotch plate or its a lot further back.

have to agree though, it does look better.

The legs are way shorter and look more like Castaferrum-pattern ones, gives the model a stumpier look.

Man, I wish someone made a 3D printed modification kit for the GW plastic model. I've always disliked Redemptor dreads, but wouldn't hesitate to buy one with this sort of stumpier, wider proportions. These slight differences are the sort of things why I think the modern MKVI, Indomitus TDA and Land Raider Proteus resculpts are best looking versions of their incarnations yet. Each takes the classic silhouette but just makes it even better somehow

It's almost entirely the stance. The joytoy has a much wider stance and is leaning forward, and that lowers the model and makes it look more compact. The gun (and fist) pointing at the ground also adds to that compact outline. The GW version looks somewhat awkward because of the higher stance and the fact that it looks like it's tipping over backwards. There are very minor differences to the armour panels (the biggest being the foremost panel on the GW version is narrower and the plate above thicker) and things like the shoulder connections being chunkier, but they're essentially the same. Like I say, it's just the stance.

I disagree. The legs are considerably shorter on the Joytoy model, you cant attribute that to the stance alone..

You can also google image search for the joytoy dread, and you will see the model pictured in other poses. And on almost every on of them, the Joytoy model looks better

Yeah, and on almost every single image on google, the Joytoy version has its feet much wider apart than the GW publicity shot. To be fair, the publicity shot is posed really badly and just looks awkward. The first time I saw it, I thought it looked bad (still do), but try looking for some better posed versions on google and you'll find it looks much better when done well.

Re the differences, I still think you're being fooled by the stance and perspective and the fact that a few of the armour panels are very slightly larger on the joytoy version (front of the sarcophagus is wider and doesn't drop down so much, hip plates are marginally wider). Look for a version of the GW redemptor with a wider stance and you'll see it looks much more like the joytoy version - like in the attached image, for example, which still doesn't have its feet as wide apart (not sure it's possible to replicate the Joytoy pose on a base that size). The legs are almost exactly the same length, it's just that, when posed with the legs absolutely vertical (which is how people usually pose them and how it's posed in the publicity shot), they look longer. If you analyse the images proportionally, they're actually pretty much the same.

Is the joytoy version exactly the same as the GW version? No, of course not. Is it significantly different? I would argue not. But we can agree to disagree if you prefer?

I agree that it's all in the pose. I don't see any real proportioal differences, and all the joytoy stuff seems to be at least in part based on GW's CAD files.

Joytoy have captured the sens of weight the redemptor has; partricularly in the slump of the hips and bend in the legs. The heavy gun and fist hanging downwards also helps.

Of all the faults of GW's current designs, posing is by far their worst. It's the lack of weight and motion thast makes models like the redemptor appear toy-like, and make it feel out of scale with the world it's suppose to exist in.

Joytoy is shorter but not by much. It's the angle and the pose.

The shoulder on the Joytoy sits noticeably lower however.
