Hi, folks. Figured I'd start a thread for my various Inq28 undertakings. I never wind up playing any games with these, and they are really more for the hobby and the setting that for anything narrative.

Starting off with some Ecchlesiarchy guys.

Some Ministorum preachers, iconifers, etc. A mix of old Bretonnians and flagellants from the wonderful Highland Miniatures. Illuminations are copies from an ikon of one of the Evangelists (can't remember which) and El Greco's St Jerome.

Some more senior clerics. The one on the left started life as a Nurgle sorceror.

Zealots.

Flagellants. Still some of the coolest and most characterful miniatures GW ever made.

Close-ups of some of the freehand. The banner is a copy of El Greco's "Virgin of Charity" - trying to carry on the old tradition of including Rennaissance/Baroque paintings in 40k miniatures. Likewise the book image is inspired by an medieval illumination of Virtue being tempted by a priapic devil.

More to follow. C&C welcome.

Fantastic! Always love to see more Inq28 stuff. Great use of muted colors with occasional pops of brighter stuff. And that freehand! Nice.

Thanks to you all for the kind words.

I have some background material for some of the characters/warbands but a lot of these guys are just NPCs. But what I have, I will add.

Speaking of which, here are some more, this time with backstory! These are much older conversions but I am still pretty pleased with the look.

This is the Skullslinger, a mysterious gunman who stalks through the hive, gunning down targets for his own obscure reasons.

And his nemesis, the Collector, likewise a mysterious and menacing figure, a headtaker for hire who also pursues his own targets and collects their skulls.

Here is a curious hunter of oddities, collecting strange specimens for taxidermy displays.

Yes, thanks, I really like that illustration and am glad I was able to convey it in the miniature.

Now for some more recent conversions.

A squad of Magistratum officers, local peace officers who are not quite as elite as the Arbites but more numerous, though with potentially more suspect loyalties.

These are just conversions of the old metal Necromunda enforcers.

A collection of workers and laborers. Mainly a mix of old and new Cadian, Catachan, genestealer, and Necromunda bits.

Got to have some hazard stripes in there somewhere!

On the left is some freighter pilot consulting a dataslate and yelling at stevedores for being behind schedule.

I am a little dissatisfied with my photography and would appreciate tips on how to make the photos a little sharper.

Take care, all.

I think the photos are decent and the bricks for a nice background. Cloudy days make for a nice, diffused light source. I would place the camera slightly lower to make your miniatures look less... miniature. And if it's a digital camera, then I would I would the shutter speed a few fractions faster. If not, most phones and computers have programs for touching up photos. Maybe lower the exposure and dial up the contrast a touch.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

Ok, thanks for the tip. Tried to do that with the next group of photos, and they look a bit better, though still not as crisp as I'd like.

Speaking of which:

Some servitors. On the left a much earlier style of painting, and on the right my more current pallette.

A random, "middle-class" citizen, converted from a spare ECW figure from the lovely Bloody Miniatures.

A street physik, ready to dispense some injections and pharmaceutiks of dubious provenance. This is an old conversion I tidied up a bit.

"It won't hurt a bit, I promise!"

This is a fungus hunter, who travels through the down-hive sumps looking for noteworthy molds, sludges, and mushrooms that he sells on to poisoners, sero-savants, magi biologi, gourmands, etc. It's dangerous work, but remunerative.

The model is a cleaned-up version of the traitor commissar figure, with a Necromunda head and a fair bit of greenstuff.

Inspired by this old Necromunda art:
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/552253973042133986/

And lastly an old Imperial Guard veteran, proudly bearing the marks of his service.

That's all for now.

More good stuff.

Re: photography. The bricks are cool, but there is a lot for your camera to focus on that isn't the minis. Maybe try a solid background, either a sheet of paper or fabric with either no pattern or a faint pattern. Avoid colors, they can skew your color balance.

It's a good point, I forgot to do that this time around but will do it in the future. But then, how do some people get such lovely, clear shots of their miniatures in terrain?

In my previous post, I included a decrepit old guardsman built from one of the Empire State Troops. This reminded me of how much use I make of them. So today I am showing three other conversions I have made over the past months, all using the State Troops.

First is an Inquisitorial operative, perhaps even a junior Interrogator.

Cadian arms, an old Necromunda metal head, and a few ammo pounches. But there is so much detail on the State troop model that little need be added.

Next is a rather sinister swordsman.

Didn't come out clearly in the photo but I scuplted a ruff to make him look more gaudy and exotic.

And next is somewhat mysterious gentleman. From the front he looks harmless... at least to the inattentive

But when seen from the right angle it is clear he is ready to strike:

Is he an assassin? A cut-purse? A cut-throat? Or just a citizen in a tight spot?

The left-hand knife is from the Delaque set and the coat is from the first Victrix French infantry set, a leftover from my days of building big Napoleonic battalions. The head is a heavily altered Dark Elf head.

And for good measure a dashing swordsman or duellist. This is build on one of the old Empire Archer bodies, which always seemed good for 40k because of their long coats but which seem to be quite hard to find now.

On the shield is a painting of the inconstant Lady Fortune with her wheel, forever lifting up the ill-starred and tumbling down the successful.

Hope you like 'em! Soon I will have some WIPs to post.

The mysterious gentleman with the knife is looking really good. The use of the French Overcoat is awesome, the guy he took it from most likely doesn't need it anymore anyhow.

All in all great kit-bashes and conversions, and stunning painting.

Thank you!

And the cast of NPCs grows:

A female bounty hunter or hired gun from a converted Escher

And a Lucius Worna-esque bounty hunter, made from an old Ultramarine Tyranid hunter with all the Astartes insignia ground off and a shock maul from the Enforcers sprue

The blue is a change from my usual Zorn pallete-esque color schemes.

Some sinister guns-for-hire. The first is a mish-mash of parts with some GS and plasticard armor flourishes seen on late 15th and early 16th century armors.

And a second built mainly from an Eldar (I refuse to call them Aeldari) warrior, wearing some psychically silent armor. I got the idea from one of the killers in Playing Patience, who wears a bodyglove that is too "slippery" for Kys's telekinesis to grasp onto. He has a mono-knife and some trophies hanging from his belt as well.

It was an interesting challenge to paint both of them almost exclusively in different shades of black.

A sniper. This was an old conversion I had lying around for about 12 years!

Some sort of investigator xeno-tech hunter or investigator. He wound up seeming a bit like Brendan Frazier from the Mummy movies, but at the same time looking rather flimsy and overequipped. So I imagine him as a nerd who thinks he is Indiana Jones.

I made him from a Hasselfree(?) figure I originally bought in a failed attempt to make a character from a comic book my friend likes; when that didn't work, I stuck some Delaque bits on him.

And lastly some personal security operatives, the kind hired by a nouveau-riche guilder to protect his new luxury manse. Relatively high-tech and sleek by 40k standards. I tried originally to paint a complicated design onto the carpets to resemble an expensive Persian rug-style floor covering, but it was too messy and busy, so I just went with a plain red. Might go back and add a decorative border or something, though.

That's all for now. Thanks again for the advice to take photos against a white paper - the pics are indeed a little clearer.

Hi, folks. Long time no update but that is customary for me. I would like to share today an ongoing project of mine, gathering a collection of all kinds of pit fighters and other combatants for the amphitheater. Some of them are inspired by the Carnivora in "Ravenor." I will keep adding to these over time.

First, a veteran duellist, showy and arrogant. He carries a monomolecular saber.

Built from Escher arms, a Dark Elf body, and a head from the Empire Handgunners

Next, a gladiatrix:

She is built around an Escher body, with various bits and bobs attached.

The crowd favorite, champion of dozens of matches. A bit of a nod to that guy from Gladiator who comes out of retirement to fight Russel Crowe

A savage fighter whose style evokes the primitive tribes of feral words

These two are built from big guys in the Spire Tyrants kit. I did not realize just how huge they are.

Next comes a heavily augmented killer, lobotomized, bulked with slabs of vat-grown muscle, his shrunken brain sluiced by Spika and 'Slaught.

Something more exotic: a greenskin to really amp up the crowd's bloodlust. The game agents can sometimes secure a juvenile feral ork to bring back to the pits, but mature bull orks or those from more "advanced" greenskin worlds are forbidden (and too dangerous to capture). Note the detonation collar, in case it breaks loose.

I kept the skin relatively light to resemble a younger, smaller ork.

Lastly, a struthid, flightless, towering, territorial, with a deadly beak and a thundering charge.

I hope in time to add a few more, including a chrono-gladiator, some more xenos beasts, and the Dis Pater of the Roman games.

You should do it!

Magnificent stuff. So much fun and character.

Thank you!

Here is another little project I have been working on, inspired by one of the great tag teams of the glory days of wrestling: the Road Warriors.

They are built from Goliaths with some alterations to get the Road Warriors' distinctive 80s B-movie post-apocalyptic armor and their complementary haircuts.

The Road Warriors, both in and out of the ring, probably wouldn't have been out of place in 40k.

Face paint taken from a classic RW promo:

I have a few more wrestlers in the works, hope to show you soon.

Wishing you all a good holiday.

Great project going on here mate, super atmospheric!

The veteran duellist with the boofy hair and purple vest is a really lovely example of kitbashing creating a whole new miniature with its own personality that wouldn't have been possible out of any one box.

The guy way up top with his rifle slung over his shoulder after the Blanche painting is similarly top notch.

Thanks for sharing!
