I got the soviet winter starter set for BA and built a few quilted uniform riflemen so far. I know the maxim team are all on one base but when checking the 82mm medium mortar team (winter, of course)store page. they are all on one base, when in the support group and starter set pictures the mortar man is on an oval base, while the loader and spotter are on round bases. The set came with an extra big base. I'm thinking of doing the three separate bases option for ease of painting, and then using the big base as a movement tray for them. Thoughts?

I'd say you should probably do as you said, this way you get the best of both worlds and if you're not happy with how it comes out, you can still glue them back on a single base.

because it is not a crewed gun rules wise you don't need to keep the mortar seperate for potential re crewing.

those look really cool! Did you mean that you used the CD-ROM as a base? That's a pretty good use of junk.
