I kind of fell into making wedding cake toppers.

Way back, a guy on a miniatures gaming website asked if anyone could sculpt him some 5" or 6" tall figures.

I'm a sculptor so I said I could do it, but asked him what he was looking for. I mean, those are some pretty big minis.

He said that he was looking to put them on his wedding cake. He wanted to surprise his bride with a cake topper featuring her as a zombie and him in a post apocalyptic fallout costume- two ends of the apocalypse as a super geek way to say "together forever."

I figured this is basically the same as making minis, just a bit larger.

I loved that project so after the wedding, I shared it in the mini painting forums I frequented. A little after that, someone else contacted me and asked me if they could have a cake topper featuring the bride and groom fighting the zombies. And soon I had others asking for zombie fighting cake toppers- but could I match the hair styles or dress?

And my clients started having other ideas:

I'm always interested to see what new cool ideas my clients come up with for me to make. A lot of them tell me the story behind their idea, but once in a while, I'm in the dark.
