What the title says, been looking to get into Necromunda again at some point and am curious what gang would serve as the best template for building a PDF squad, so mainly troops equipped with lasguns and flak armour, as I've got a box or two of the new Cadians leftover that are just begging to be used for something else.

Escher perhaps? They certainly like using lots of Gangers with lasguns.

Van Saar. Subtek with lasgun is still cheaper than the Escher discount and you're gonna need cheap bodies to have a full squad of ten. Also come standard with an armored bodyglove so everyone claiming a save won't be too weird.

I guess you could do Escher and start with just bodies, then buy cheap lasguns as you progress. I'm pretty sure Van Saar was the base for a Necromundan 8th 'squad' that had ten bodies, a 'sergeant', 'heavy', 'specialist', and seven lasguns.

If you're just looking for models & not necessarily rules, I'd go with Orlocks as being the most vanilla. Maybe mix in a few others for variety.
Then use Underhive Outcasts for the rules.

F - is the Fire that rains from the skies.
U - for Uranium Bomb!
N - is for No Survivors...

Personally I would stat up what you think a guardsman would be like.

Remember you have regiments like the spiders who were just a really big gang rounded up and sent offworld.

Also in settings like Armageddon hive miltia (gangs) are inferior to Imperial Guard.

Then once you have that see what gang matches most closely, or just go with the homegrown option.

Personally I think the basic load out is straightforward. A lasgun or autogun, possibly with a standardised upgrade to show they are all the same model of weapon, knife and flak armour.

If you wanted a more squad like initial set up I would be looking for fluffy stuff like munitioneer for the ammo guy who follows the heavy weapon around.

You don't want to load everything onto them at the start, because your platoon is going to requisition equipment as required (respirators, bodygloves (flakweave clothing), hazard suits, unofficially acquired side arms, shovels, etc.).

In terms of development you have the veteran squad from kill team to show what your guys could end up like and give ideas for equipment and skills.

Fluff wise I would say you have a platoon assigned an AO, you recruit whiteshields locals and 'gangers' you buy are personnel transferred from other squads as they are either surplus or get folded into yours.

Feel wise I would want something that gave a feel of better organisation than other gangs, while not being better individually. If your arbitrator was happy with custom stuff I would probably be looking at stuff like wider use of group activations to show them operating as a squad, or perhaps the ability to use overwatch more, and then smaller boosts like altering sentry rules to reflect what they are often called to do.

Thanks for the food for thought so far, will look into getting the right books later this year and work it out from there, but more suggestions always welcome! 👊🏻
