Haven't built anything in ages due to fearing messing up expensive or OOP kits.

Need to get some experience under my belt and build confidence. Perhaps the plastic Deimos Rhino kit to start with?

IMHO, in order from easy to hard:

Plastic infantry (Mk6, Mk3, Tartaros, Cataphractii)
Contemptor and Leviathan Dreadnought
Kratos and Sicaran chassis tanks
Rhino chassis tanks
Land Raider/Spartan chassis tanks and Deredeo Dreadnought

Your first Rhino kit will probably be a massive source of frustration as you try to figure out how to handle the bottom plate.

The rest of the kit (and related kits) is fine, but the bottom plate just does not want to fit properly without putting a lot of effort into making it fit one way or another.

I wouldn't get one as your first kit, but if you want to do any sort of mechanized marine army you'll probably want to deal with it sooner than putting it off too long.

I agree - the Rhino is surprisingly annoying. I am a very experienced plastic kit builder, and I ended up hacking and swearing at the baseplate as I tried to get it to line up. Get it wrong, and you end up with a wonky fit on the rear ramp, and annoying gaps elsewhere. The exhausts also require a lot of cleaning up, and it you do it properly you need to fill quite a lot of joints. If you get through all of that, building variants like the Predator is actually quite straightforward.

I would also avoid the Spartan initially, as the fact that it shares common parts with the Land Raider means that the hull comes in a number of pieces and has to be assembled with considerable care. The basic Land Raider is a much more straightforward build.

I think that, in terms of non-infantry models, the Contemptor and Sicaran are the best ones to start with, provided you follow the instructions carefully. When assembling HH models, it's also vital to clean up all the pieces after removing them from the sprues, as the tolerances are quite fine.

The Spartan sent me round the twist trying to get it all lined up and sat together neatly. I don't understand why the bottom plate had to be the way it is. So fething frustrating. Not to mention the ridiculous multi-part sides. off.

I also found the contemptor challenging. Although that may have more come down to me not knowing how I wanted it posed. (Don't let H.B.M.C hear me say this) But I think it was almost too multi-pose.

Any of the standard infantry kits (Mk III/IV/VI) would be a good start for a novice builder. They're all pretty friendly. Jetbikes as well I believe to be fairly simple, although I have no first hand experience with them.

That's why I suggested following the instructions carefully! It goes together well, but it's certainly a lot of pieces.

Infantry kits are decent, though does need a bit of care lining some of the arms up, not too hard though. stick one and do the other while its got a bit of give in it and job done

Honestly the basic AOD boxed set is a good starting place, put together the infantry, then the dread, then tackle that spartan once you're feeling confident.

of the infantry I felt that the termaintors where actually easier then the MK VIs but it may have been a familarity thing as I'd already put some together from the old BoC box

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two
