What differentiates modern and ultra modern? Is it just modern cranked up to 11?

Modern is post-WWII, ultra-modern is +/-10 years to the current date. You'll get some wiggle about the *exact* dates (WWII, Cold War, Modern, UM is the big one) but that is a rough breakdown.

I am on the lookout for a good modern skirmish game but £35 is a bit much for a 48-page softback and what look to be flimsy punch-out cards.

Yeah it's near future with plausible tech advances, caseless ammo or more drones but not power armor and cyberware.

Ok, thanks. I didn't realize it was a distinction and just considered modern to be, well, modern. WW2 is usually labelled WW2 like FOW/Bolt Action, Cold War era as Cold War like Team Yankee, etc.
