New Year, New Army as GW like to say... except this year Old World came out so it feels more like New Year, Old Armies!

While I like AoS as a worldbuilding, I've not clicked with the game itself, so this plog is going to be painting up all the bits I've acquired (or printed) over the years to see what armies I can pull together. At present I know there are at least a Night Goblin horde, beastmen herd, Vampire Counts and some Chaos warriors kicking around in boxes somewhere... so it will be interesting to get these all based up and try to actually get some games in for once! Some bits will just be rebasing things I painted over lockdown, but a lot of it is painting new things up as we go.

Wish me luck as we delve back into the Old World!

To kick start things we have the first three (of six) Stone Trolls using the AoS troggoths. Surprisingly these rank up well on the 40x40 bases despite being a lot bigger and more dynamic than I remember the old metal trolls. All the bases are mdf with magnets embedded in them so it is easier to store/carry around.

Thanks! The blue is slapchop (drybrushing dark grey, then a lighter creamy colour) and then Kroxigor Scale contrast.

The remaining three trolls were based today, so that's probably it for stone trolls for now! They do *just* about fit onto the 40x40 bases, but there's only a few combos that fit for ranking.



I have also started basing up a load of the spears that I painted over lockdown. There's another 40-ish still to do, and some touchups, like the banner in this horde as I don't think I got around to finishing it!



The increase in base sizes does lead to a bit of a spacious look to the horde, so I need to print up a load more mushrooms and rock piles to add onto the bases to fill it out a bit

Are you planning on making movement trays for your units, chief?

The Troll unit looks really good.

Not sure on the movement trays yet. Mainly because I've not had a chance to look through the rules and formations/frontage recommendations yet to work out what width they should be or how often goblins would be reforming (guessing never )

The bases are all magnetic, so it may just end up being some thin metal plates of varying sizes

Recent activity has mostly been just basing things. Sooo many things! The slightly annoying thing is that as I look at the photos I'm seeing loads of things that I want to go back and fix... but if I do I'll never progress; so they are going to have to remain as they are for now.

There are still another 15-ish spears left to base, I just need to get some more magnets and grass tufts before I can do the next batch of basing.

The squigs are a combination of the usual herd box and hoppers as I've been stealing the riders for another project that I'll photograph when I actually find the damn things again after an office move (sooo annoying!).

The 3d printer has been going for the last couple of days and has added 40 archers to the painting queue as well as a bunch of frogs for a second Squig mob.

So lets see where we're headed points wise. Currently I'm missing the characters to make it legal, or any banners.. but so far it is clocking in at 696 points with:

Always enjoyed Night Goblins. While I don't mind the AoS version of them the lack of plain old basic orcs and goblins always annoyed me.

Ah see, I was always a fan of pure night goblin armies with Skarsnik in WFB... so I like the Moonclan Grots in AoS. In fact... I mentioned the other day that I was working on a unit that required the riders from the squigs...

I really love the wolves form the AoS wolf rider kit, but I'm not a fan of the mongol-esque riders that the kits come with, so I've started converting them (and the trio from Underworlds) to be Night Goblins instead. These are still WIP on the painting side of things.



I have another 5 of these to make, which will be more heavily armoured, like the boss, to look like knights. Getting them to rank up on the 25x50mm bases is a challenge with the tails, so I suspect there will be some rejigging of things before the bases get finalised as well.

Wolf riders are looking great. I realy like the banner of the first goblin mob too.
