Im thinking about combos.
Units, banners, lords and mages with their spells. When combined interesting stuff can happen. Whatever you have.
Post it!
Personaly I am dusting off my old Wood Elves, and should realy get around to rebaseing them.
When I'm reading the rulebooks I found two combos. Quite expensive, so no idea if they are worth it
****************************
Combo 1
Wood Elf Lord on a Forest Dragon 135+275pts
Spear of Twillight 65pts. AP2, you always wound on 3+,Killing Blow.
Merciw’s Locus 35pts. You can't increase your S, but neither can your opponents.
Optional: Spirits. Maybe Annoyance of Nettlings for 10pts? Enemy has -1 to hit in a challenge.
510 without spritis. 520 with.
You got your Lord on a dragon. Your squishy T3, W3 lord becomes T6, W9.
And the enemy cant raise their S when they fight you. But YOU always wound on 3+, plus have killing blow. Combine with your naturaly high WS and I, plus dragon, and things are looking good!
A quarter of your army in one place feels scary. Especially if you face artillery.
***********************************************
Combo 2
Glade Captain (60) or Waystalker (85)
A Muster of Malevolents 40pts.Each enemy model hit by one or more shooting attacks made by this model’s Asrai longbow suffers an additional D3 Strength 2 hits
Hail of Doom Arrow 35pts. Single use. If you hit a ranged attack place the small blast template, S4, AP1.
Optional: Asyendi's Bane 10pts. Bow. Quickshot. Reroll misses, but if the reroll misses you take a hit.
Total:
135-170pts.
So. If you hit with the Doom Arrow, you will also proc the Muster. So each hit is 1S4 AP2 + d3 S2 Armourbane 1 hits. Feels like ALOT of damage, but also alot of points for one shot. Even if ofc they stay around afterwards to fight, they probably wont be super effective.
Maybe the Waystalker is better since you can continue to harass and snipe. Pick at low T mages with bow+Muster hits
**************************************************
So.
Do you guys think they are worth it, or are they just cute gimmicks?
And do you have any combos you have spotted?

This isn't really a combo, it's as GW intended, but with my thoughts on a process: two great cannons and an engineer between them.
First shot, if it misfires, use the reroll. If not, move on. Do not use the reroll to change the bounce. Second shot, if it misfires, use the reroll. If not, move on. If it sticks in the ground, use the reroll. If you don't get the bounce you wanted, but did at least hit something, consider using the reroll. If you didn't hit anything because of a short bounce, definitely use the reroll.
This sort of disciplined husbanding of the reroll dramatically reduces the chance of a misfire. Nothing worse than using the reroll to make a decent outcome on the first cannon better, only to watch the second cannon blow itself up!
Oh, and always (and only ever) give the engineer an HLR so he can don't just stand there, get busy sniping wizards!

The "husbanding rerolls" is illegal, because you have to completely resolve all shooting with a unit before moving onto the next.
One of the more hotly debated ones is the Mace of Helsturm with Spectral Doppelganger. You can attack 'normally' with it, or you can make 'one' super-powerful, high-damage attack. But the hits from Spectral Doppelganger, though using the profile of the character's weapon, aren't actually considered to be "attacks".
I'm sure you see where this is going.

Looking to get back into Empire and that mace was my first thought when I read that spell. I presume it's going to get FAQ'd at some point, although the comedy value of some lowly Empire character turning some 500-point dragon-riding elf into marmalade is... *chef's kiss*

I think you're misunderstanding him. He's saying if your first cannon doesn't misfire, you don't use the reroll at all on that cannon. Let the die lay where they roll as you complete shot. Don't be tempted to burn the re-roll on the bounce of the first shot lest it cost you the second cannon. And only THEN, once the first cannon shot is complete and you're starting the process of firing the second cannon, can you consider re-rolling the bounce on the SECOND cannon if needed.

This. I was totally scratching my head, wondering if he thought the two cannons were a single unit....

GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"

I'm sure that everyone who's looked at dwarfs has noticed, but I'll mention it anyhow.
Hammers with a banner with the Rune of Confusion. No initiative bonus for any unitvcharging them and 2 attacks at ini 4 will be hammered in. Initiative 3 armies will get thrashed before they get to strike, Initiative 4 armies will meet mutual destruction, and elves cheat as usual. I'll personally be trying them out with a Strollaz rune on top of that on the side of the field to force my opponent to make some decisions.
Also, a group of 5 irondrakes with a champ toting torpedos are cheaper than a cannon and looks like they might outperform one. Give that champ hand grenades too, and anyone charging the tiny squad will feel some serious hurt.

Empire BSB with Griffon Standard gives staties excellent static CRes. Close order, 2x2 ranks, 2 banners for a 7. I don't think even hordes can get more than 6. And LD8 with a reroll, 9 if near the general. I'm thinking 40 swordsmen, 8x5, with both the BSB and the general in the fighting rank for ultimate anvil. Champ eats challenge, the two mild melee chars are then free to both reduce the number of successful incoming attacks via higher WS and armor, and dish a little pain with their swords of might (my go to, cheap, spammable, and remarkable effective against everything but challenge monkeys and heavy cav). I can see this setup bounching a lot of charges, but you can't ignore the unit, there's a lot of VP to be mined. It's obviously pricey, but it has all sorts of board control, VP denial, and core minimum satisfaction going for it. This one block of swordsmen gets me within reach of the shooty troops that I want anyway meeting that 25% minimum. But in my current list, I'm foregoing the magic banner, I just don't have the points without taking real risk elsewhere, like dropping my engineer and watching my great cannons blow up. So my static CRes will be 5...still pretty excellent.
