How do!

So despite this being the 21st Century and with like, all streaming and stuff? The UK is yet to get the Walking Dead spin-off shows. Even on home media. Being outright piracy adverse, I’m now thinking it’s time to tickle the teat of a VPN.

But I’ve no idea what’s good value, or whether I can get it working on a Smart TV.

And so I turn to Dakka in the hope someone can enlighten me.

As far as VPNs go I've been using NordVPN for a couple of years now with no issue. It seems to be a popular app, most of the people I know who have VPNs also use Nord.

I've never tried using it on a Smart TV but a quick Google search tells me that it is possible to install it on one. I guess it will depend on how old your TV is and whether you can install apps on it.

I think the Opera browser still has a basic one built in (depending on what you want to do with it).

There is a Ukrainian war youtuber Denys Davydov who has a persistent deal for AtlasVPN.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Nord VPN had a massive databreach a few years ago, big VPNs are tempting targets for hackers. The company that owns Nord VPN and Surfshark seems to be more interested in spending money on advertising than protecting your data.

If you do use a VPN service, try to limit the information they hold about you.

See, that just puts me off them altogether. Being a luddite that works from home? I can’t take any risks at all with my internet connection. Not only would I lose my job if hackers, I dunno, piggybacked me into the system? The stuff I do carries a constant threat of an unlimited fine and up to five years in prison if I screw up big time.

In the words of Garth Algar? I’m not going to jail for you, or anybody.

Guess it’s “buy a region free DVD player, then import the physical media” route.

I've had NordVPN now for a few weeks, I was on BitDefender. Noticable Differences:

Bitdefender:

Slows down to a crawl at bad times
Bottlenecks my 1Gbps speads to 10-20Mmbps
No foriegn content unlocking option - if I want to watch Nobleberry, I can't log in with a UK VPN on BD.
Clearly better defense.
Very expensive 200-300 per year (You have to buy the whole BD suite)

NordVPN:

Foreign Content unlocked. I can watch any international content, anywhere. I can easily click a button and be a Brazilian person getting free access to their local sports channels.

Cheap - Only 100ish per year (Less with code Bigmoney)
Security is meh - they leave a lot of ports open and their IPSEC is non-existent
Whitelisting/false flagging is awful - Nord literally flagged Steam as a malicious vector, and killed it first time I started. Thankfully I was able to white list the app, but still. You'd think that would be patched out by now, or auto-listed.
