I am starting a project, where I am building the two starter armies in 10mm scale. I will hopefully play the game with these armies aswell, but using 1cm as 1inch.

The advantage with this is lower costs for miniatures and I can use a smaller gaming table. I am initially using magister militum for miniatures and yesterday I finally got all the stuff.

A worthy project.

We did this in a very limited way for 40K, using AT Questoris Knights. One box for £27.50 and you had a 1500 point army!

Casual gaming, mostly solo-coop these days.

While I appreciate the efforts, why not just play Warmaster? It's actually designed for 10mm and in my opinion plays better as well.
You'll also have more opportunities to play people outside your immediate gaming circle as the game actually has players if you're willing to look.

There is the matter of playing on a smaller board, as Warmaster "zooms out" to fill roughly the same size board as a 28mm game. Playing 40K etc with cms instead of inches reduces the required board size significantly, which is handy for living areas that don't offer much space for a large table.

Casual gaming, mostly solo-coop these days.

@mozzamanx
I am no stranger to warmaster, and I have actually played it. I even have an empire army in some box somewhere. But this project is it's own entity. The smaller board size and old world hype drives me.

Once the idea to copy the two starter armies to smaller scales started to grow, my path was set. A terrain board with the deserts and tombs of Nehekara and the two armies doing battle. All to fit on my casual sized table.

Also those are nice stls, but I don't do 3d printing.

My first 3 regiments are glued to the bases. Hard to show anything proper until I get some paint on them. But seems like the army will fit good in one display shelf

Some progress. All essential miniatures are built. Just the basing and painting left.

Here they are displayed for a battle. The table is slightly larger than 44×60cm, recommended size for up to 3000 pts, so it should be the size that fits me. The armies here are 24cm apart.

I pretty much copied the main army boxes for old world. But one skeleton warrior blob was replaced by tomb guard. And no mounted skeleton archers, just spears. The bretonnian lord in on standard pegasus. Other than that it's just some extra dudes sprinkled out.

That's very cool! Would you mind putting some objects close by in future pictures, for size comparison? Like a reference pear, or something?

Sure thing Cyel. Here is a reference corpse cart and a rhino placed on the board.

Thanks. I calculated the conversion in scale from inches to cm myself and rounded to closest suitable number.
I then ordered custom cut sizes from pendraken.

Infantry are on 25mm squares in regular old world. In my smaller version i divide by 2.5 (ratio of cm/inch)

So my infantry are on 10×10mm
Skeleton cav are on 10x20mm
Bretonnians cav are 15x30mm
And so on...

Those look great! Have you looked at any offerings from other makers of ~10mm? I know Forest Dragon does some great Bretonnian style knights that might be a nice way to beef up your forces.

I've done something very similar, for use in a handful of other games (Mythic Commander, To The Strongest, Oathmark) but I haven't tried the Old World. Don't have the rules for that beast, plus it looks pretty intense... My brain these days is more suited for simpler games, lol!

I play...

Sigh.

Who am I kidding? I only paint these days...

Thank you. I do have my eyes on these minis from pendraken to expand the tomb kings. Mainly because the dragon seems a little oppressive if he joins every game, it would be fun to have some less impressive necro-priests on foot. For the bretonians i would perhaps like more of the same knights from magister militum, but also a mini to represent a damsel or two. I have some 10mm scale catapults they could use already.

But no new purchases for this until I have painted my current hordes.

Looks really cool! Must be quite fiddly to move individual models.

I did a testgame and it can be done, but I will definetly make movement trays to help.

I've based my individuals (heroes and such) on small steel discs, so that were I to use movement bases, I'd go with dark colored magnetic flex-steel (sheets of thick magnetic "paper", for lack of a better term). That holds the individuals in place nicely, and they're easy to take off and put on, as the tides of battle sway against and for me!

But mostly it's to keep them from moving around much, as I store them on these magnets in plastic boxes.

I play...

Sigh.

First test models painted. At this small scale I think I should go for brighter colors than usual, and even used a yellow primer instead of black for once. I did a warm and a cold scheme.

Brown wash, some bieges, browns and greens or blues. Evil vampire damsel for scale.

Did some work on the men at arms. These are just 5 out of about 40 billhooks to make. I used thick paper and mod podge. So i have my work cut out for me. But there is no rush in this project. I would expect in my current tempo to finish with painting and all in about 2 years

Those are cute.

You are a maniac for wanting to play with single based minis at this scale instead of using warmaster or kings of war rules.

I like the blue skelly best, the other one is a bit too similar to skincolor on the bone bits.

And again a maniac for hand making billhooks at this scale

Regarding some feedback I recieved I changed up my tomb kings paint scheme wich I will proceed with. Also the first knight of the realm has sworn his oath and is riding to battle.

Great project. Nice paint schemes you've settled on. Not overly bright, but definitely bold enough to be clear at this small scale. Looking forward to seeing your progress.

I finally finnished the build phase of my bretonnians. Crafting all those little halbeards was madness. But now only the painting is left.
