There was this image that I saw one time, (at least I think I did) of an Eldar Wraithknight, (possibly wraithguard) maybe even as old as an Eldar Dreadnought.

It was kneeling/crouching/squatting atop a high pillar of some description looking down upon the battle like a total badass, like some lithe, agile, deadly thing, not at all robotic and static looking like the old metal miniature used to be.

And I remember when I saw this I thought, I want to get one of those old minis and chop it to bits and build it into that pose.

But since, I haven’t seen this picture again and if I did I would certainly know if I was just being a crazy kid back then or if the idea is worth realising all these years later. Cause I still want to do it.

Thanks everyone.

This one perhaps?

What a cracking mini! That really might be it…

I have certainly seen this one before and its certainly a wraithlord in a crouching position, but I’d completely forgotten it was a Scorpion themed one.

I had a notion it was a black and white drawing though and there was a long gun… but then I could be mixing this up with the classic Codex Eldar dreadnought artwork.

Thanks, this is a good help.

A quick google search turns up this one: https://images.app.goo.gl/LdFqmYHvHwtSFsSA7

Which is built from the old metal wraithlord not the plastic one and is crouching with a long gun.

Not a sketch though.

I've looked through all the codices from 2nd through 9th and there's no image matching your description. There's a B&W drawing of a Striking Scorpion in the 3rd edition codex on page 6. It's reused in the 4th edition codex on page 33. It would seem to be the inspiration for that Wraithlord model above. Perhaps you've seen that Wraithlord before and the two images merged in your memory.

Thanks both. Lots to consider there.

That’s a very nice oldar conversion. I’m trying to think if an old metal dread with the top half like this one and with the legs posed like the scorpion wraithlord would make any sense at all.

Like it was posed to do some sniping from atop a high tower structure, ranger wraith style.

Something like this one?

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Spoiler:

I was going to suggest this one

I believe this was featured in the 5th edition core rulebook alongside a lovely Alaitoc army with converted guardians and so on.

Aspect wraithlords are one of my favorite conversions. I tried my hand at a banshee one, turned out OK.

Love the pics in this thread.

Are you thinking of the image near the rear of codex Cityfight? It matches your description exactly, except it is a Striking Scorpion. I can't find a (legal example Dakka will let me post ifyouknowwhatimean...) online, but it looks like that might be it.

I have the old Cityfight book in the attic. That really might be where I saw it. I’ll have to dig it out and have a look and let you know. Thanks for the heads up.

Had a look. It’s the Cities of Death book that I have and no it’s not there. Though there is another crouching scorpion in that one. Side profile this time. Not the crouching sniper wraithlord I’m looking for.

Is this rifle-holding version of the wraithlord available to buy or is it a kitbash?
Originally the plan was to make one with the old metal dreadnought but then if it’s going to cost me more than a new boxed wraithlord I might start to see the limited value of this project.

It’s almost a personal challenge. Can I make the old metal Eldar dreadnought mini that I grew up with into a very cool, very vintage, ranger wraithlord?

There is a pistol grip mount for the modern WL, but it looks like that one has a lot of work done to mod it.

That wraithlord conversion is possible just with the plastic kit. The pistol grip hand is included, but the cupping left hand requires some work. The biggest thing is reposing the legs. That requires some work. The extra plate on the head is a hip armor piece. The little vane on the back of the head is put on upside down. Everything else is stock.

I can see it now. They’re repositioned the pistol grip back a bit and used the left hand to disguise the point it was at. Then they’ve used a part of the sword for the rifle stock. It looks great. I just have this notion I could cut the original metal one into another a bajillion parts and wire it al together in a super dynamic pose with mucho greenstuff to make it look like this but still 2nd ed vintage too.
