Once built, is there a way to tell apart a current Leman Russ Battletank, and one from 2nd edition (90s). Obv I mean if you are using the same heavy bolter / battlecannon loadout the old ones had.
Trying to tell if a 2nd ed IG army needs an old LR or if a modern one would be undetectable.

the weapons are different
certain hull weapons were metal in 2nd and the barrels of all of them looked different
also different in shape for the main gun as it is build in a different way int he new kit
the primary hull is the same, the accessory sprue changed (dozer blade looks different)
overall, a new tank won't be undetectable, specially among 2nd Edi ones
if people will notice simply depends if they know the differences or have seen the original before

Ah thank you, that's very good. I'll have to scrutinise the pictures a bit closer.
Would be good to be able to tell if a built / used LR on ebay was an old one, as the boxed originals are a shocking price.
EDIT: Now that I look closer, the turret is very different. Really need new glasses

easy to spot is how the hull weapons look, turret is tricky as there were conversions and resin/metal parts from GW/ FW to change patterns (so hard to tell if something is an original 2nd Edi or not of the turret being different can be a FW one)
modern ones have the weapon mount cylinder and the weapon as different pieces (as there are different weapons in the kit all using the same cylinder) while the original one the cylinder and the weapon was a single piece
2 example pics from google, first being the new kit and 2nd a converted old one but the difference in hull weapons remains

Thank you for the pics, very descriptive. I can see that a new one just wouldn't fit in.

Yes the difference in the turrets stand out to me even more than the hull weapons. Thank you.

yeah, if the plastic turret is used, some of the FW upgrade ones to mount the different weapons look more similar to the new plastic ones, while still being an "original" oldhammer one

The weapons and the tracks and the turret ring fitting (if you can remove the turret, the older one had a larger opening.
The older model had separate tracks and wheels (which also served to hold the track units apart the right distance).
The older heavy flamers had a different nozzle end, and the multi-meltas and plasma cannons for the sponsons were metal

The hatches on the side were separate parts in the old one, and so stick out where the new ones are integrated and recessed. The engine block is also different.
