Soooo... Many many years ago I discovered the world of MMORPGS through WoW, which I loved, but there was one game I never got around to trying....City Of Heroes. With the recent (and quite astounding) revelation that the Homecoming server has acquired a license and is now legit, i thought I'd give it a go. it's currently downloading. Anyone here play? What can I expect? What were your experiences? Any advice for a new player?

I played CoH/CoV when it was still official, but not to the end. When I head about the “unofficial” server I gave it a shot. There was a lot of new content I was not familiar with.

There are a ton of viable builds. Let your heart go wild. Play with the costume creator. The game has a ton of replayablity. Don’t just race to the level cap, enjoy the journey.

Watch out for malta sappers. They need to die first. (That’s mostly a joke, they are a high level faction you will not run into for a while, but are a major PITA)

I absolutely adore this game. It consumed my life for quite a few years and I still hop on Homecoming every now and then. It holds up remarkably well.

The endgame content for this game has never really been its strong suit. The big appeal for me is its really not a loot grind in any way and a lot of people power level to the cap only to find the game doesn't exactly end there, but its definitely not where the game begins either. Most character builds really feel complete around 30 and from there you'll want to play just to fight crime with your character and experience the story arcs as they come.

Also, of note, there's a mission creator feature in the game that at least when it was live had some great content from players who wanted to create stories in the world. That was often my favorite place to go when I got bored of the standard mission template.
