how is the new edition of this game everyone?

Solid rules? Points now? Not too complex?
I absolutely love the companies model range and it looks promising for a skirmish system.

Thanks.

It is a little more complex but it is enjoyable.I think a few youtubers did some videos.

After reading through the rulebook twice, me and my opponent have decided to play Asymmetrical Warfare instead (it's essentially Spectre 2 - 2.0; made by the original rules designer but under different name because he doesn't have the rights to the Spectre trademark) which we will be checking out this saturday. Although I wasn't the one buying the new Spectre book, I'm still somewhat bugged by the contents. The rules are a mess, there are lots of typos (including entire paragraphs out of place), unexplained interacrtions (I don't think there's any description to the AP stat anywhere in the book? I may be mixing it up with something else, but there was definitely a stat given with no explanation), poor wording choice (AP and Armour Piercing are not the same thing, one is a stat the other is a special rule), bad editorial work (there's a Reddit thread explaining multiple errors in force building section alone), and somewhat baffling design decisions like smoke grenades not actually being there and just giving a unit essentially better armour save against shooting for a turn. Definitely not what I'm looking for from this game based on my experience with the older Spectre ruleset, so I'm sticking with another iteration of the old classic. I'll attach two screenshots to highlight some of the issues.

ugh, thank you for saving us some time and money. I'll try to find Asymmetrical Warfare info, that sounds promising. Cheers.

We've played our first game today. It's basically the same as 2nd edition Spectre with some rough edges ironed out; grenades are no longer as effective, and Overwatch is no longer an auto stance that basically gives no negatives (if I remember the rules right, it's been a year since we last played old Spectre), rules wording seems to be clearer now as well.

I'll note that we've played in hard sci-fi setting but didn't modify any of the rules, i. e. every single soldier utilized normal firearms and armour. We have our modern forces as well but they are not ready yet and we needed to try another ruleset for our near future engagements anyway.

We had opposing teams of 8 models divided into two squads of four each, Professional level, the attackers needed to intercept VIP that was escorted by the defenders. Rifles, DMRs and SMGs, no additional rules on top of the base game. Commandos (desert camo) successfully evacuated the professor from the laboratory that the Imperial side (white camo) tried to catch. Imperial fireteams tried to cut off the escape routes and have managed to take out a commando that failed to counter their maneuvers with frag grenades. However, second fireteam of local defense force that appeared behind hostile forces has managed to utilize smoke to its advantage and take out entire section (with some support from the main extraction group). Imperial DMR trooper killed another opponent from the reinforcing squad and critically wounded its leader but remaining attackers couldn't intercept VIP in time, thus the game ended with the opposing side's victory on 7th turn.

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

Those are some great pics SgtBanzai it looked like a fun game.

A few colleagues and I are giving Spectre a go. One is really into military history and warfare and is driving the rest of us (building loads of terrain etc.) so I'm quite happy not to be the one doing the driving for once and be dragged along.
I quite like how varied the setting and scenarios can be. We're doing both French Foreign Legion in sub-saharan Africa and Redneck meth labs vs law enforcement, so quite a wide scope!
Just started on the rulebook, looks like a lot of detail there, but will report back how it plays.
If you're buying from the UK, it looks like Mighty Lancer Games is a stockist of the Spectre range.
