I really like Tamiya Extra Thin (brush application, flowing into gaps etc.) but I recently discovered that there is a quick setting version so would like to hear your opinions about it.

The quick setting version smells absolutely vile.

And how it performs as a glue? I do not mind the smell (could it be worse than orange cap one?) as long as it is good at gluing.

Honestly I haven't tried since the first time I opened it. I guess I'll give it another go but the regular extra thin does the job just fine for me.

The smell is nothing like the standard Tamiya cement or the extra thin. It's a much harsher smell.

Maybe you'll just have to try it.

It performs very poorly in my experience.

I wondered why my Tamiya extra thin wasn't working properly, the bond seemed to be much weaker than other poly cement that I've used. It was only when I asked other people what the problem could be that I realised that I was using the quick setting version.

Just buy the regular Tamiya Extra Thin, it's much, much better.

Is it only the weak bond = you could remove parts easier than when glued with other glues, or is it not holding properly = parts do not want to stick together?

I use the quick setting solution exclusively now after buying it by mistake when I thought I was getting the regular stuff. I've found that it gives a much stronger bond than the regular Tamiya extra thin, which is why I use it.

Semi related question - I use regular one also to smooth mini parts after removing any mouldlines found, because it leaves no traces like other glues do. Would that version be also good for that?

A bit of both.

Here is the thread in question, where I eventually realise I've been using the quick setting variant. I'm not the only one who's had problems with it:
