I'm designing a rules-light fantasy skirmish ruleset for 10mm figures. The core rules have reached a playable state, so I got to have my first test game Friday.

It's so gratifying to see something you've created come to life in play. And I'm glad that the core loop of fluid player turns spending "momentum" points on activations and turn-stealing reactions seems to play pretty well on a tidy 16x16in board.

If a small scale skirmish game may scratch a gaming itch, here's a short playtest form. I'll email folks when the rules are ready to share more broadly!

These photos are quick snaps from two games - both using the same two warbands (I've got four proof of concept warbands planned, but am still finishing painting or rules for the other two). I need to work on a proper battle report format!

Looks very intriguing. Can you tell us what's the supposed battle scale is (are these warbands, or dispersed regiments?), what factions are planned, what are the unique mechanics? Am I correct that it's supposed to be released soon?

Thanks for the interest!

These are warbands. Assume this represents 1:1 of the minis shown on the bases, but orders and points values are done at the multi-based group level (with the exception of single based heroes who are considered "groups-of-one.").

Warbands will have between 4-8 groups.

This will be a miniatures-agnostic game with very light, mostly implied worldbuilding (think the same approach taken by Frostgrave).

Any sense of faction or fantasy race will largely be determined by the two special rules (i.e. "Traits") each warband can take.

This project comes out of my personal gaming context of being a busy adult who:

- Is not interested in even moderately complex games and the competitive system mastery required

- Doesn't want to spend an hour or more writing a list

- Wants to have a game that can be stored, transported, and played in a tidy, compact space (i.e. no more tubs and tubs of terrain and unwieldy cases of 28-32mm armies)

- Loves narrative gaming and the ideas of ongoing campaigns, but simply doesn't play frequently enough for campaign rules to be used

- Wants to paint a cool warband from his imagination, then have casual fun with friends rolling dice, moving minis around, and telling a fun story about the fight that happens

That said, these rules are still being written and tested, so a lot of this may change. Here's the core:

- Designed for 10mm(ish) scale figures on a 16x16in (~40x40cm) board

- 5-6 group types based on high level soldier archetypes (e.g. warriors, shooters, skirmishers, etc.) - similar in spirit to how SAGA warbands are built from a smaller number of unit types

- Rules-light complexity similar to Forbidden Psalm and Sword/Space Weirdos

- Fluid player turns built around an action points system used on initiative bidding, actions, and reactions (the closest comparison may be Crossfire)

No.

I hope to release a playtest document and create a Facebook group for this project in the next few weeks, though.
