Absolute Unit - Some things are just Bigger than others. Entries should be larger than their peers. Giant tanks, big bruisers, or even the roughest little fey in the fairy circle. Or it could just be part of the model. Swords longer the the wielder is tall, or hammers bigger than the torso of the guy/gal swinging it. Sometimes size does matter.

Strongpoint - This is the rock upon your foes will break. When lines waiver, they hold firm. When raiders come, this is the place of refuge. This can be a piece of terrain, like a bunker, castle, wall segment or part of a fortification. It could be a unit known for its toughness, like ogres, giants, terminators, or heavy intercessors. Or it could be a single model, like a paladin who’s faith and shield protect the innocent.

On Wings of Fire - Descending from heaven like god’s avenging angels. Entries should have mobility/deployment as a theme, either jump packs or literal wings, or a sense of motion where they are arriving on scene at a critical moment. And they should make an impact when they get there! While this topic is ready made for jump/flying troops or aircraft, the themes it embodies can also be found in light calvary, harassing units, and skirmishers.

The Fall - This is a more abstract topic that can go a number of ways. Find your inspiration and show us that in a miniature/diorama/terrain piece. With the changing of the seasons, autumn is upon us. Bare branches, fallen leaves, chill in the air. Those who stand on the side of righteous often do not stay there forever. Champions of good become servants of evil. When a job goes south, someone is left holding the bag. Who will take the fall for the gang? Sometimes giants seem indomitable, but are not invulnerable. What does it take to make one fall?

Poll will run for 2 days.

As always, thanks to people suggesting ideas. Even if they don’t show up right away, they get added to an ever growing list of potential topics.

I voted for Absolute Unit. I actually have something in mind, even though I didn't propose that particular topic.

Now showing various models from the previously adandoned projects!

Painting total as of 3429/2024: 56 plus a Deva King statue
Painting total as of 12/31/2024: 107 plus a set of modular spaceship terrain and two walkers and a quad mech and five giants

I voted for Wings of Fire as it was my suggestion, but I'm absolutely fine with any of these winning as I have stuff suitable for each that I've been meaning to get round to painting. A really good month of ideas for me, this one.

Presumably "The Fall" will be good for any Eldar painter/player, right?

I voted for The Fall since I've got a miniature who's been sitting around for ages who'd fit it, but I have options for whatever gets up. In the case of Absolute Unit and Strongpoint, same option.

Mostly, on my phone.

I've gone for The Fall as I think I can justify a bit of Order 66 action. But if Absolute Unit wins I'll do Spectre because as a Unit, they are the Absolute

I can find something for all topics but don't have any preferences this month.

To be fair, I totally forgot about that connection when coming up with the topic/description.

It started as a “how do I get a seasonal topic into the poll?” Summer/winter sell themselves, but spring and fall are a little harder. So I went with an abstract/inspirational/concept slant. Not that you can’t take any of our topics and go off on a tangent with something inspired by it. As long as you can justify it, most anything can fly.

But fall of empires is fair game.

I mean, even going strictly for the season, I can still do exodites with leaf strewn bases... Like I say, lots of really good options for me this month!

I voted for absolute unit because it looks like I wil finally have more time for making models, and I'm in the mood for a tank . It will fit all the others subjects too, maybe except wings of fire.

Strongpoint would be a good opportunity to finally get around to painting some terrain pieces.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

That’s why it’s there. I know there is interest out there in more terrain-friendly topics, so I made sure to include one this month.

I suppose also a really big terrain piece could be an Absolute Unit.

That should be time, and a big win for absolute unit. Strongpoint barely noses ahead to second, avoiding a 3 way tie.

So a look ahead for the end of the year:
September: Absolute Unit
October: Halloween Special
November: Will get a vote thread to choose a topic, with Strongpoint being one of the options to give it a second chance
December: Open Round.

Excellent. My sneaky plan to actually finish the model I started for the Centerpiece challenge is coming together.
