Subject: Special Challenge Suggestion - How many points can Dakka paint in a weekend?

How do!
Putting feelers out and ordering my thoughts on this one. The intent is for a hopefully fun painting challenge to inspire people to a put a dent in their Pile Of Opporunity. And it’s exactly as the title suggests it is. How many points can Dakka as a collective paint over a single weekend.
Basically we agree a weekend, then get as much painted as we can, ideally starting from unpainted, possibly even unassembled (though assembly really cuts into your hobby time!).
No requirement or expectation to spend a set amount of time slinging paint and clipper. Just some kind of commitment to get something done. Could even extend it to over a week or two, as I appreciate many Dakkanauts will insist on letting Real Life intrude on Hobby Time. Like…kids, spouses, pets, basic personal hygiene etc. And so a wider window might prove more enticing?

It could be a lot of fun. But a lot of issues.
Real life being huge. Not every weekend is created equal. I’ve got weekends where I’m booked, and others that are wide open. This massively effects what I can get done.
Workflow is also big. I spray prime in batches. There is no way I can get something from sprue to done in a weekend. I like to give them plenty of time to outgas/cure beofre putting a brush down.
Never glue and paint a model on the same day was a lesson learned at the cost of a few brushes
That said, I’m currently trying to get a spearhead of nighthaunt done in a month. So I get the “power through” mindset. And have a primed pile that’s overflowing.
I’d toss my hat into the ring if we do this. I’ve got a bucket full of tyranids that need paint and work well in batches.

Could be Boxed to Based, could be “finally finish off that unit that’s been taunting me”.
Definitely open to suggestions for format and that. What counts is, hopefully, crossmojonation of the hobby flow, inspiring each other on.

I like the idea, and I like it being a group effort rather than individual like the monthly contests, it'd give the challenge its own different identity as an 'event'. Maybe make it a week though, rather than a weekend? I feel like if it's just the weekend it's getting into speed-painting territory, and even so anyone who has to skip a planned session for any reason is effectively out immediately, at least in terms of being able to finish minis they're happy with. Sunday midday to next Sunday midday, you build Sunday evening, let the glue dry, spray Monday, leave it to settle down, you've still got three weeknights and two weekend evenings available and can skip one one or two if real life intrudes, or you're just not feeling like painting one night, without just abandoning the challenge entirely. And opens it up for slowpokes like myself to maybe think about a squad of five, rather than being confined to only the character minis who have a points cost on their own (and being characters, wouldn't necessarily be minis I'd want to rush).

A week does seem more inviting. Also part challenge for those who fancy pushing themselves, and part general snapshot of hobby activity,

With a whole week it feels like it’s just going to be a snapshot of people’s hobby life, not a dedicated push.
I can say for a weekend, all my free/hobby time is going to be focused on painting. But a whole week? Some nights are going to be watching TV, reading, playing computer games. Plus more mundane things like shopping.
I try to get to the hobby bench every day, but not long sessions. I don’t have the dedication for a full week hobby push. I know I’ll burn out well before the end.

I think this might be better as a “study” first, and a self challenge second if people want?

This is not for me, I do not enjoy rushing things, thematic challenge are what I enjoy because a month is generally what a mid sized miniature takes.
I wouldn't want to paint an entire month nonstop to begin with, especially not as a competition.
But rushing mini's a weekend will probably feel like ruining those mini's rather than anything else.
Sorry, but no on my end.
