Subject: The sporadic painting journey of Sixtysketch - 2021-Present

Hello gents. I've always been curious about starting a painting blog. What better place to begin than here and now?
I'm a very sporadic painter and quite slow, oftentimes picking up a paintbrush, painting for five minutes then stopping. Other times i'll put in solid eight hour sessions. As a result, I'll likely be updating this very irregularly, but I hope you enjoy the posts as and when they come.
A bit about myself. I got into the hobby back in 95 at the grand age of 3. My old man gave me some white dwarf magazines from back then that, despite being inherited by a literal child, still somehow remain intact and readable. I've prettymuch always kept up with Warhammer to an extent ever since, starting with Eldar and then Sisters in 5th edition (the old metal sculpts) before moving on to Fantasy 8th ed playing Wood Elves. I fell out of playing the hobby between then and 2021, where I got back into the hobby with a few mates and jumped into the new AOS. I grabbed some paints, a old tile as a palette and some old brushes i had in the cupboard for the past 10 years. I'll try and post up to present day, then i guess we'll see where this goes! Cheers.

My first foray back into the hobby was with AOS. I saw the Kharadron and decided on them. My idea was to have them covered in verdisgris and rust. Obviously the application was less than ideal, but at the time i was very pleased with them.

After that I got myself a wet palette and some fresh paints, having been using my old stuff from like 10 years prior. The jump in confidence and quality of my painting shot up. I spent a good amount of time on my first big model, the Kharadron Ironclad, which i'm still pretty pleased with to this day.

After this I grabbed myself some of my old Wood elf treemen i'd done as a teenager and spruced them up with leaf litter, getting into them now my Kharadron was near done. As well as that I started adding some of the new Kurnoth hunters and an Arch-revenant

AOS was an admittedly short lived experience. I swapped over to 40k near the end of 2021, falling in love with the GSC models. Here is a collection of pictures of how they evolved in the early days of this collection, it now being almost 4 years old.
I was originally challenged by a friend to paint clean, no weathering or anything like that. I got about 6 models into my GSC before i did a 180, absolutely covering them in weathering..

Over the next few years my collection of GSC has steadily grown. Alongside that is a collection of random models, sporadic purchases and the classic pile of shame building up. This inlcudes a small Custodes force, a small Eldar force, a Small drukhari speedpaint project, My Admech army i've slowly been building up only to change colour scheme with two seperate times, a few random Marines from the Imperial Magazine and a Lumineth army for AOS im determined to one day paint more than one model for

Around mid last year was my first attempt at a bust. I felt my ability to do skin tones had got pretty good over slowly building up my GSC army and wanted to try it on a larger model

Since November last year my focus has been on two projects. One being my GSC, the other a Imperial Knight army. Both are currently ongoing. I'll post a few pics of each and their progress to present. First up is my GSC

Next up is my Knights. They developed as a single knight to support my Admech, but soon turned into my current painting project.

That gets my to the present. Thanks for those who trawled through all that haha. The last week i've been working on expanding my Imperial Knights by adding some Inquisitorial Agents, suitably admech themed to better fit with the army. I made some Inquisitorial agents out of the Necromunda Delaque gangers, kitbashed with Admech bits. Alongside that now their new book is out, they have to have servitors. So i've used the Jotunn Servitors from Necromunda too, with some Admech conversions.

Those wood elf treemen are just beautiful.
I'm guessing it had to be difficult getting those birch seeds to go where you wanted them to go.

Thanks Tommy. It was actually very easy. You just cover it in and PVA and dunk it into a pot of leaf litter. Afterward you use hairspray to seal it and it's done.

So, that's a pretty dang cool retrospective. You are definitely a skilled painter. Love the Knights and GSC. The color scheme on the Custodes is killer, too. And the bust. Yeah, solid body of work.

Thanks youwashock. I figured a retrospective might be a fun, realistic way of looking at the average joe's painting progression over the years. Here are some more of the Custodes I did alongside that guy, i realise some of the pics I chose werent the best!
