So there's a tiny chance I might be moving and I've got a whole load of models in plastic boxes. These are just loose models in boxes, some not even on bases. I'm wondering what I could use as a cheap and easy to use packing material that I can just fill the boxes with so that they can survive transportation without me having to go nuts wrapping everything individually or fitting magnets to everything (which won't even work for anything that isn't on a base).

I was thinking on trying to source some tiny styrofoam balls, like the kind used for beanbags or such and just pour them in. However I then have the rather daunting task of unpacking at the other end.

I have far more models then foam.

Last time I moved it used a few big flat bins and a bunch of bath/beach towels. Lay everyone flat, fold the towels over between single layers of minis.

Now I was moving them by hand in my car. Not handing them over to the gorillas in the big trucks. But I didn’t have any more breakage then I’d expect.

Yep. Towels, socks, wash/dishcloths, whatever you've already got on hand. Tissue or even paper towels, if nothing else.

Another tip. Pack your dishes and other breakables in your dresser drawers, padded by shirts and pants. When it's time to move, remove the drawers from the dresser, put the dresser in the truck, and then return the drawers to the dresser. The dresser becomes a massive 'padded hard case' for the breakables.

I have done similar, have taken minis on a flight (checked bag) by laying them in single rows and wrapping them with kitchen roll.

I used thin plastic bins, with smaller comparments inside (something like the below). So there wasn't much room for the minis to move around, and they were kept in small groups. I think this helped a lot.

EDIT: I suppose I should mention this worked, and I didn't get any breakages. lol.
