OK, the theme I'm working on for HH involves House Vyridion the pardoned by the Emperor Knights who fought the War in the Webway and stood with the Loyalist Legions in the defense of the palace.

The issue is this - the pilots of House Vyridion had no suits, so House Krast and the Mechanicus donate a chunk of less-than-pristine suits, including some captured Traitor suits (some of the suits still had the charred remains the former pilots still inside)

I plan to try to make the suits look heavily damaged, including the Aquila of the Ashes, a Knight Castigator who's pilot had to paint the family coat of arms by himself. (The colors are laurel-green and black - think death guard green).

So I want these suits to look like they've seen better days.

Also, I need ideas of how to show that some of the suits were "Traitor" suits (I have no idea why House Krast or the Mechanicus on Terra had a stockpile of Traitor Knight suits).

I thought about having a few spots of clean armor where the Sacristans pried off the chaos logo's and slapped purity seals in the same place.

Any advice you can give would be most helpful.

You could go for an almost "orky" look with little panels (plasticard or other material) stuck on in a pattern over the mech. Representing where spikes or other details were removed and patched over.

Faded chaos symbols might be a good subtle way to show hints here and there of its past

Another would be to have cleaned bits of chaos weapons/head designs - again snip/clip/ break off the parts that are spikes and clearly corrupted and replace them with non-standard issue plates and so forth.

Something like the head might even keep something like the decorative horns/tusks

This is for your house vyridion castigator right?
Going only by what the lexicanum says (so pinch of salt, yeah?) they were able to muster 2/3s of their house in recovered chassis' but not all of it was in poor condition.
They had one week, so i suspect the aquila from the ashes would be one of those in proper condition but the paint scheme would be a patchwork from swapping out armour panels without time to properly paint them.

The rub is they wont have any in their actual house colours.

Maybe paint the Castigator in Martian Red with an epaulet done in green and black to denote the rank of the Knight and the House heraldry.

Either that or steal an idea from House Vulker and have the Knights rock the bare adamantine look with faded colors.

I'm open to suggestions. Since I still haven't even read the rules for playing with this model.
