Hello there,
as the title mentions; I am writing some rules to add ship battles in a open map campaign with 7 players. The rules of the ship battles follow the principles of Battleship Gothic Rulebook v1.10 and the overall campaign is based on the Galactic Conquest ruleset (with a few changes specially in the Subsistence phase) while the retribution system is taken from the last Crusade update. Basically the most difficult part for me is to define the rules for post-battle phases like Renown points assignment; ship repairing and upgrades. Is there any group doing some similar campaign? Your advice and experience is really welcome!
Cheers,

I think this is a very cool idea, and I'd like to follow a project like that and contribute where I can... But that's the issue- I don't know much about some of the existing systems you're using. Also, for clarification:

1/ Battlefleet Gothic rules for the starship battle component of your campaign.

2/ What is Galactic Conquest? It seems to provide the overall campaign structure- I'm assuming it has some mechanics that interact with both fleet and ground battles?

3/ It sounds like you're using 10th edition Warhammer 40,000 Crusade playing ground battles and managing the growth of the ground forces and the narrative context. By most recent update, do you mean that you're using the Pariah Nexus Crusade book?

4/ You mention that it's map-based, but at what scale? With fleet battles, I assume you want a sub-sector, with multiple systems, and multiple planets within each system. Do you also have maps for ground battles, or are they fought for control at the planetary level?

I don't know of any other projects that are seeking to integrate fleet battles into campaigns that also involve 40k ground battles.

We used to do this in the CA Bay Area back in I think 6th or 7th edition. We integrated BFG, had a sector map and individual planetary-scale maps too.

If you DM me an email address, I can send you a copy of our campaign rules, though they are way more detailed than anyone would really ever want.

Hi, thank you. I'd really appreciate it!

I found this ruleset here in Dakkadakka https://www.dakkadakka.com/s/i/at/2010/7/Galactic_Conquest_Version_1.0-09223657.pdf. It provide very nice rules about planet creation and starting lists for the armies but it has no advanced rules for ship battles. So we are trying to integrate the Battlefleet Gothic campaign renown system in a way that can work comparing the latest crusade rules.

The narrative context is given by each faction's codex; so any player pick their Battle Honours from their codex. The main goal of this campaign is to have a big map open for conquest, basically we want to run for about one year and see where it goes.

The scale is, more or less, a portion of the Ghoul Stars sub sector, a far reach and isolated sector based in the Ultima Segmentum. This was ideal because there is not so much lore about it so we can mess it up and write our own story without interfering so much with the "official" 40k history

However we had to make a custom map to host all the 14 solar system, 7 of these are inhabited by the playing faction and the other 7 are "undiscovered system" that can be colonised. Each planet gives an amount of Revenue Points that are used to gain Retribution Points (1 RP every 5 Revenue Points). There are also spaceways and warp gates to travel along the systems; this is the main difference between our ruleset and Galactic Conquest. I guess I can upload this ruleset once we are satisfied with it.

Below is the empty map, planets are placed in the intersection between lines. Lines are instead the representation of the spaceways. The background is just a random image from space and it has nothing to do with the gameplay. We then placed object to represent planets, fleet and armies.

We actually agreed that planets are conquered with just one battle. But maybe planet maps can be integrated with fewer players (actually we are 7).

This campaign is going quiet slow but very well. Managing so many different factions is quiet a job but the game advanced thru 7 full turns which means on Autumn 42013 in the 40k timeline! Great achievements have been made by Imperium but the alien menace is quiet piercing. And Chaos Lords are always plotting behind the Warp shadow..
Color Legenda: Blue (Imperium); Green (Necrons); Black (Chaos); Yellow (Orks); Purple (Non Aligned Imperium forces); Grey (Tyranids); Orande (Drukhari); Pink (Eldar); Turquoise (Sun and dead planets)

Thread necromancy on Halloween? How appropriate.

Glad to hear it's going well.

ATTENTION
. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.
