While not doing what I'm supposed to, I was scouring the current Tourney Meta lists looking at Knights and Custodes, and I notice a common theme of FW models (Atrapos and the custodian tank, whose name I can't think of) appear in a lot of "proper" tournaments.

Is this the norm? Some (most) of this FW kit is kinda pricey, and I wanted to know if facing some of this stuff is normal in 40k?

(I understand that most of the HH stuff is legal in 30s games)

If you're doing a tournament, ask your organizer. They're the only ones who can answer the questions for you.

If you're just worried about casual games, talk to your opponents. The rules are available for free for the FW Knights and such right now, so you don't have to worry about that part of it.

A lot of the Forgeworld stuff has been moving to Legends and isn't likely to show up in tournaments, but some of it is absolutely legal and possible to show up. Custodes tanks are one of the more common one as one of the few vehicles they have available. In other factions it tends to be less common, as a lot of the remaining options are niche characters and the like.

A few years back GW rolled FW stuff into the main store; but its still kind of sat to one side by not being included in the codex. Part of this is that they clearly planned to retire a bunch of models and have been doing so.

In the end its as said above, ask your opponent/TO/Tournament Organiser for clarification. Each event is unique and what one allows another might not.

It's also not going to be a blanket "yes no" it might be units in certain publications are allowed and others are not etc.
