Hello all I haven't played Warhammer at all in many years after I sold all my models and moved around a bit. I want to get back into it and I'm thinking of doing grey Knights.

What I need is advice on where to start I can't find any grey knight codexs do they still do that lol. HELP!

Also any other advice for this edition I played 3rd to 6th then left.

Grey Knights are still on an index I think - so you can get their rules for free from Warhammer Community aka WarCom https://www.warhammer-community.com/en-gb/downloads/warhammer-40000/

The Combat Patrol boxed set is - as designed by GW so hit or miss on actual results - the core of the army you'd be expected to expand and build on. I can't help on if the GK combat patrol is a hit or a miss.

My WHFB armies were Bretonians and Tomb Kings.

Because GK don't have a codex yet, it's sort of hard to know what their "final form" will be for this edition. Right now, their index detachment is all about teleportation and spamming dreadknights. Their grotmas detachment is quirky and leans heavily into purifiers. So you could try to lean into one of those themes for now knowing that they might change dramatically when their book drops, or you can take a more well-rounded approach to collecting models that will have a variety of strengths and weaknesses.

Generally, it's important to have some disposable units in 10th; preferably ones that can deepstrike, infiltrate or move fast so that they can get into position to score secondaries. GK can have an especially hard time with this because their units cost so many points, but they make up for it somewhat with thehir teleporting and having tougher-than-normal dudes. All of which is to say you should probably consider including a couple of small, cheap squads when you're collecting your army.

ATTENTION
. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.

Thank you, I appreciate it. Thanks for taking the time to write it.

Be aware that Grey Knights are likely to get a near complete model overhaul in the next couple of years, which will in the best case make the current range look out of scale, and in the worst case invalidate the bulk of the current range's rules.

If you're looking for a long term army investment, Grey Knights are a poor choice.

To expand on that: A few editions ago GW released what are called "Primaris" Space Marines - a new organ set etc in the fluff and slightly but noticably larger power armor models. This most recent edition saw a release of new (shooting) Terminators. So far Grey Knights have not gotten new Primaris marines - but chances are high they'll get moved to the new scale while the old scale gets shifted exclusively to Horus Heresy. I would guess most people on here would say they assume that's going to be the case. Some of them may have even seen an official news release on the subject.
