Hey, it's 2025, let's talk about the Space Marine kits that offer best value to the player - especially the new one. This doesn't mean they have to be the best on the tabletop, I'm talking good for the money.

My suggestion is the Company Heroes box.

Now I can hear you saying "I'm not fielding a Company Heroes unit!", and you're absolutely correct. You're buying:

1 Space Marine Captain (52.50 CAD)
1 Space Marine Lieutenant with MC Power Sword ("Champion") (47.50 CAD)
1 Space Marine Lieutenant with MC Bolt Rifle (47.50 CAD)
1 Space Marine Ancient (+1 OC to a unit and 4+ FNP on objectives) (52.50 CAD)
1 Sternguard with Heavy Bolter (15.00 CAD if you say he's 1/5th a Sternguard box)

That's 215 CAD MSRP for 80 CAD MSRP, knock 15% off for a your FLGS discount for 68 CAD.

Now you take an Intercessor box, use 4 of them for Sternguard stand-ins*, use the captain options you left on the sprue to make a 3rd Lieutenant, and the other 5 for a regular squad of Intercessors. (75 CAD MSRP). This gives you +60 CAD of Sternguard, +47.50 CAD of Lieutenant** and +37.50 CAD. So for 155 CAD MSRP you can get 360 MSRP of Space Marines. While this isn't a useful army as-is, it's better value than any Combat Patrol and basically a 57% discount at MSRP.

*bonus points if you can source some fancier shoulder pads. Tart them up and no one will complain.
** you'll need a 40mm base, but hey, everyone has spares, ask around.

Now I realize that you could just make Lieutenants, even Captains, out of just Intercessors, I'm trying to minimize the kitbashing required, and Intercessors don't really come with weapon options. I don't see much point to buying Captains or Lieutenants or Ancients as long as the Company Heroes box exists.
