I know and remember the article that came out in 3rd edition for using a deathwatch squad. I know rumors were abound for codex: alienhunters and the thing never got made. I know codex: deathwatch came out in 7th edition.

But... were there any rules or updates for using deathwatch in 4th-6th edition that I might be missing? I am not finding anything at the moment.

EDIT: I should clarify, I feel like I am able to work around a lack of "official" unit entries or rules, but I'm more curious to see if there are any official unit entry/rules because I'm looking at how units have changed over time and deathwatch was the current one I'm looking at.

They were a special Space Marine unit for the most part. Eventually they got turned into the Sternguard which had the same SIA bolters.

As far as I know/remember, there were never any official (read: codex) rules.

A fairly common couns-as ruleset was Pedro Kantor and loads of Sternguard Veterans using the 5th ed codex. This represents Deathwatch squads fairly well, and can easily be expanded upon using the rest of the SM codex.

I had a squad I kitted out to field as sternguard. Splashed into a normal marine list for flavor.

I want to say somewhere along the line there was something more formal, but for the life of me I can’t recall.

It is a really simple back compatible insert.

They are a faction of the inquisition (ordo xenos)

As such use the allies matrix found in the witch hunters/demon hunters codex(it is the same thing) or run them as their own force. remember that 3rd-7th or cross compatible with the same basic core mechanics, just adhere to the rules in the edition you are using for the base.

Our group uses 5th ed as core but i also own a small force of deathwatch (and solmon Lok i bought over a decade ago from FW just because i loved the model) with the 7th ed codex that i bring as allies from time to time.

I did this battle with dark angels (3rd) and allied deathwatch (7th) when fighting an eldar force.
