Has anyone had any particularly amusing deaths in 40k games?

My nephew, ever the optimist, once had his Black Templar Marshall super-charge his plasma pistol while firing overwatch at my charging Daemon Prince - only to blow himself up (8th Edition).

In 2nd edition I had a dreadnought that shot at some Chaos Space Marine Bikers with its Assault Cannon. One of the Bikes survived, but I pulped the rider. In its turn it went out of control, due to no rider, and ended up hitting my Dreadnought. It hit and penetrated the Assault Cannon arm causing a secondary explosion in the main hull. Which blew up my Dreadnought.

Lots of 2nd Ed examples, from War Walker skittles, to squishing a Canoness with an exploding Predator’s turret.

Best kill I ever saw was a sole Gretchin stand taking out an Emperor Titan. Titan player neglected to assign Plasma to his shields, so it was nakey. Gretchin shoot it in the rear, hit the reactor. Snake Eyes of save, 6 for damage, and a big old cloud of plasma ensued. No the Gretchin didn’t survive. But still the best point-for-point kill I’ve ever had the privilege of witnessing.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also, not a kill as such, but Living Ancestor casting Dominate on Abaddon, sending him and his squad teleporting back up to their ship, playing no further role in the game.

Tapping the Glass at the Herpetarium

Saddest in-game death Ive witnessed goes to Kharn the Betrayer versus an Ultramarine Whirlwind.

Kharn flubs a Charge roll, and ends up 4 inches from the Ultramarine's deployment zone objective.

The Whirlwind does 1 wound to Kharn but that's not enough.

The Ultramarine player knows he's screwed, so he charges Kharn with the Whirlwind, plays the Tank Shock Strategem rolls 5 dice and gets 4 mortal wounds on Kharn (he was already down a wound), killing the World Eater in the Charge Phase.

SInce this happened in the Charge phase, Kharn's abilities don't kick off.

Kharn gets mangled by a Whirlwind. The most ignoble way for him to go.

My most memorable is also an ignominious kharn death vs a vehicle.

2nd Ed he charged the front of my predator annihilator, caused it to move randomly and failed his initiative test to get out of the way and was run over dead...

2nd Ed. Chief Librarian in Power Armour, hopped up on Combat Drugs and Iron Arm escapes death when the Genestealer Magus flubs his Vortex Grenade, the template landing about 2” behind the Libby.

Except there’s a squad of Hybrids there. With Shotguns. Shotguns do knock back.

It was like the end of Terminator 2, but the Hybrids didn’t run out of ammo.

Pestilent Plague Marine with Blight Grenade

Not really a hilarious death, more a hilarious survival:

3rd edition, one of my first games against Tau, I end up with a single surviving plague marine from a squad of 7. With no other suitable targets, the opponent's hammerhead shoots him. Single target, S10 AP2, at the time the most powerful weapon in all of 40k.

Fails to wound.

That guy got promoted to Aspiring Champion for the next game, and was modelled with a big gaping hole in his belly
