I've noticed more and more people selling custom nameplates.

Does anyone actually use these? I've yet to see anyone actually have them on their models.

I do have a bizarre urge to make an Alpha Legion Kill Team and buy nameplates for them all that read Alpharius.

Yes, indeed – I used to be quite sceptical of them, thinking they broke the illusion of the base and drew too much attention from the figure, but I've grown to love what the 'boilerplate' adds to the figure.

I think they work best on centrepiece or very large models – the Ur-example of which is Titans. The bases are so large that nameplates don't dominate, and they serve the immersion of the game by letting the players refer to the units by name, which I've found makes things that little bit more fun.

Here's a couple of examples, which are from Battle Builder – the interface there lets you see how they'll look before making a purchase.

If it's appropriate to do so, you can use my affiliate link and get 10% off with the code 'MournStarfall'.

... and if not, then by all means pop through the standard link: https://www.battlebuilder.net/

I'm not connected with the company beyond the chaps running it being very nice and offering me the affiliate link; I'd thoroughly recommend them regardless.

I think partly its due to 3D printing making it really quite trivial to create them now, even in highly personalised forms.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

I would, if I could find a good file to make them.. I used to buy them from Greenstuff World, but they stopped selling them

I see nameplates as marking a significant hero worth it, like named characters. Naturally, all custodians have too many names, so I name each of them as they are all heros

One day I will have something funny enough to be in a signature.

I play a lot of skirmish games, so just about every mini gets a name. I just write on the rim of the base, but those nameplates look a lot better.
