Hi all,
For
40K or other sci-fi, I've seen some great scenery with various types of concrete, stylised to different degrees.
However, besides just "paint grey, drybrush lighter grey" and staining plaster with washes (which looks great, but I'm after something less dependent on surface) I'm not finding a great deal in the way of tutorials. Note I'm not painting separated slabs, they are large single blocks.
These images show what I'm going for:
The characteristic dark staining on the top, beige undertones, cracks, random shapes, tiny orange-y dots...
Attached my results so far (material is mostly sealed & primed foam).
Current method is (approximately):
Prime black, sponge on layers of Stormvermin Fur (warm mid grey), Mechanicus Standard Grey (neutral mid grey), Zandri Dust (mid beige), flick a few tiny specks of orangey-brown and black/green with a bristle brush, finally sponge / stipple thinned Grey Seer (light grey) in areas where it's too dark.
I know there's more to add, but was really hoping the base texture would read more as concrete. I don't mind it being on the warmer side, but it feels like even with cracks etc. it won't look much more like concrete.
What process would / do you use if you have a lot of terrain to paint? Is it just a case of hand-painting all the cracks, irregular shapes and dark staining? Any other advice?
Show off your (painted) concrete terrain pieces too!
