Before I got my printers, I picked up my first set of STLs off Kickstarter. Cochin shipyard from Imperial Terrain. Great modular stuff for Kill Team, with a pleasing Star Wars aesthetic, that my previous big ship print (the Ascension) shows.
Part of the set was a basically ridiculous massive transport ship.
I have finally decided to try and build the thing
Over 40 separate prints varying from 25 minutes to 16 hours. Total print time of about 250 hours.
Currently on part 20, part of the bow. Ive done the rear hull and engines, and a few of the internal detail walls and floors. Should take another week or so to get the rest done. It might just about fit on the spare Billy bookcase shelf I have set aside. I might need to graduate to a different display location.
Current progress
Automatically Appended Next Post:
Part 21 on the print bed. Part 3 of 5 bow pieces. 14 hours to go on this piece, then another 90 hours overall. Although about 30 hours of that are the roof, which is optional.
I have also picked up a Mantic Starship Terrain Crate to add some details on board. It’s a bit disappointing, although I guess it’s commensurate with the cost. The smaller pieces of crates and screens and suchlike seem ok, but the larger bits (cabinets and especially the tables) are really badly warped. Not sure if they can be salvaged, but I’ll see what some hot water can achieve.

Sorry to hear that the smaller pieces warped, but that also sounds like potential scenery components!

Yeah, a bit disappointing but I should get enough worth out of the set overall.
Managed to finish the main hull over the weekend. Just a few internal details and landing gear left to do before I do some bigger prints again for the roof. I have used o e if the cargo handling robots I got with the set for scaling purposes. Unfortunately the thing doesn’t quite fit on the Billy shelf, so will need to rearrange something to display it.

All bits are now printed, and the main components glued together. I have to say that this thing has assembled like a dream. The pics below still show some gaps as the openlock pegs are a bit tight, and I want to paint it in sections, so don’t want to assemble it too tightly just yet. I’m getting there with the filler primer. I don’t quite have the right sanding bits yet, so slow going on that while I try out different methods. I’m not going to bother sanding the underside, but I’d like to do a better job up top. Expecting some smaller sanding sponges to arrive tomorrow.

Interior detailing is nifty
Plenty of space for adventurers to play in.

That's a very pretty design aesthetic. I bow before your printing ability, looks like there's some serious detail going on here! Do you intend to have this ship in several pieces for accessibility during play? Will it slot together without magnets?
I've got a few BFG scale prints of my own, never really needed to do too much sanding clean up myself. What kind of sanding sponges do you use? I've heard of sanding sticks too but haven't used either.
Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the interest. I picked up a pack of 50 nail sanding sponges for about £3 which are working really well. They don't last very long individually, but you can easily cut them to whatever size you need to get into the details.
The quality of the print is entirely down to the awesomeness of Prusa kit. Although I may have burned something out doing this model as I've been having some overheating problems just recently.
I am intending on gluing it all securely. It is theoretically capable of being broken into a few pieces for storage, but to do that needs taking out some pretty flimsy tension members that I'm not keen on doing much with. For play, you just need to take the roof off, which is nice and easy. Otherwise I've got a shelf earmarked for it to live on

Bored of sanding. It’s smooth enough for government work. Planning on a teal main colour scheme, so Ive blocked in some main undertones with rattle cans. Here’s hoping my airbrush still works! Engines and worky gubbinz will get a brown/black main scheme, and I’ll pick out some random panels in a spot colour. Maybe a grey so I can use the same kind of orange signage as the Ascension.
