Random question - can any non-human races become vampires? e.g. Elves, Dwarves, Lizardmen, Orcs, Goblins, Skaven etc.

Yeah, when i read the small novel that is the Death Guard unit options and think about resolving the attacks from a melee-oriented min size death guard squad, the thing that springs to mind is "Accessible!"

I think it gets mentioned here and there that its possible. However as most vampires are human they tend to infect other humans. They might bite an elf; but I would see many being too haughty and not wanting to bite a lizard, or a filthy rat!

I believe for elves and dwarves the long life of a vampire isn't really that much of an offering considering they naturally live long lives anyway.

So its likely its there just super rare and thus, like many things that are never made as a model; tends to be ignored or only mentioned in passing in the lore.

Yes. In the Genevieve novels, there is a vampire dwarf that heads up a vampire retreat for those that no longer wish to interact with the outside world.

That's fair.

Though the idea of a vampiric Skaven does make me smile.

Humans think of vampires as terrifying nightmares who must drink the blood of their own kind to survive.

Skaven would probably just consider a Skaven vampire to be a picky eater.

I'm not that up to date on my Tomb Kings lore!
But if Nagash created vampirism in the context of extending the lives of humans in the Kingdom of Khemri, then I can't see him spending much time checking it also worked on Grots or Lizardmen?

It would leave the door open for vampires of other races, but also provide a good reason for it not being compatible with them too (or even unintended consequences) depending on your needs.

Don't forget there are LOADS of short stories published by BL and that excludes all the shorts that get thrown into white dwarf and such. The short stories can also get really complicate because they can get reprinted in different omnibus collections over and over.

So could be there is one just in a short story; or a snippet of lore in white dwarf or Inferno.
