It's been a moment since the last update, but I have been building and painting minis. I just have not finished any of them until now.
Because the other projects made me tired, I pulled some old Reaper minis out of my bottom drawer and painted them.
These are metal dire rats sculpted by the fabulous Sandra Garrity for Reaper Miniatures. Since I bought them decades ago, Reaper have started producing them using Bones USA resin as well as metal.
I checked their website and found three different listings for these models:
Metal -- 2889: Dire Rats (4 pack)
Bones USA -- 7036: Dire Rats (8 pack)
Bones -- 77016: Dire Rats (currently not showing as available for sale)
I spent about half an hour looking through pictures of rats on the internet to figure out how to paint their eyes, mouths, ears, feet, and tails. My wife is a big fan of pet rats, and I wanted to be sure that these models would like right before she saw them painted. Pink is a popular color for rat details, but it looks like the feet and ears are pinker than the tails. The feet also have fur on top so the pink color is a bit covered/muted.
For scale, I included a metal
GW Lord Commissar. I painted him years ago. He is reading to the rats, and they appear to be very good listeners. I guess his voice is very nice.
These four dire rats bring my painted model count for 2025 up to 380! Now, I need motivation to finish the boring batches of projects started earlier.
