Our group has tossed out an idea for all the "more mature" players (physically, not mentally).

The "Old School 10th Edition Tournament!"

In this tournament you get to play like it was 1996, and you were still rocking out with your dial-up modem.

FAQs? Game Balance Data-nonsense? Bah. None of that here.

You must bring a 1750 point tournament legal point list... with some "old school" changes (or should I say, lack thereof).

1. Players can use any print Codexes and Supplements (including White Dwarf supplements) to build their armies.

2. Books and supplements are used with their exact, printed wording. No FAQs, no errata, no online detachments, no balance dataslate.

3. Ignore any army construction rules and dataslates that aren’t in the Core Rules, your Codex, or a Supplement you’re using.

4. Use only codex point values, as printed.

5. No Warhammer+ App or Wahapedia (or any such online app can be accessed during the tournament).

6. All lists must be handwritten or typed and printed.

7. You are allowed to use the Imperial Armour hardback.

8. You must bring the books you want to use to the Tournament.

Would you play?

EDIT: Did we miss anything?

I like the idea of this, but it feels like its missing the "legacy" units and imposing HQ, Troop, Elite, Fast Attack, and Heavy Support choices for you to build your army from

?? How so? Rule #3: 3. Ignore any army construction rules and dataslates that aren’t in the Core Rules, your Codex, or a Supplement you’re using.
The only thing 10e says is no duplicates of Unique units, max of 6 for any unit with Battleline or Dedicated Transport, & max of 3 copies of anything else.

No, a casual game or event on a remote island where we have books but no internet sure, but an actual tournament with people tryharding using the most broken rules and points costed originally printed sounds awful.

My Mom was on the phone and I couldn't use the modem to dial up AOL.

I'm a little bit slowed and didn't realize that's what that meant since it mentioned to use the codex's

No, I would not play.

●Primarily because its a tournament & I don't do those.

●And secondly, because you've restricted it to Codex/supplement, & the Imperial Armour book, you've excluded some Legends + other stuff that have come along who's rules are only available digitally. Ex: the new Necron models from KT.
Unless you count those digital rules as part of codex/supplement.... in wich case just refer back to my previous point about not doing tourneys.

Tapping the Glass at the Herpetarium

This was an attempt to do a casual tournament in the same avenue as junkyard tournaments.

Where it'd just for fun, playing with some like minded individuals.

We just wanted to do an Anti-Meta tournament. Without the digital boogeyman looming overhead.

This idea originally came from a really bad player who will not interact with his opponent, unless it's to nitpick a rule or some issue he just found online. The rest of the game he has his face buried in the phone.

I opened up some old codex the other day and it still had a faded pdf FAQ printout from 3rd/4th edition.

I do not think I ever printed one out, do tournament people still do it? I suppose you have to with a physical codex.

Don't forget to also ban reading glasses, hearing and walking aids. You didn't have those back then either

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

I had a brilliant time once at a doubles tournament at Warhammer World.
I'd lost my voice, so I was essentially communicating through interpretive dance.

A question came up about the sequencing of applying damage to vehicles in close combat, and I was able to pull out my comically massive ring binder with every single 40K FAQ inside it which I'd printed out and mime my explanation of how the rule should work.

The result was that a Succubus immobilised a Vendetta by slam dunking it with a haywire grenade, and then it had all of it's weapons eaten off it by warp beasts.
