I was at a store yesterday and was stopped from buying the Infernus Marines box.

The guy said they are the same push-fit models that came in the Leviathan box.

I checked online - and they are labeled as push fit.

(This sucks, as I remember those guys having their shoulder pads already attached )

Do you think this is the future or just a one off occurrence?

I suspect they decided that making 2 different sprues for this unit was a waste of resources, so you get the one that exists.

I don't know whether its a pattern so much as being indifferent to it. I mean the classic sprue issue has been Obliterators and the Venomcrawler presumably being on the same mold, so they've had to be paired together ever since.

I don't think this is really surprising as they make so many products. The "11th not-Starting Set" will presumably have all new models, many of which can just be cut up and stuck in individual boxes rather than having two molds.

It’s a coin toss. Sometimes you get reboxes of the starter push fits sold separately. Other times they get redone into full kits with more options.

Push-Fit is identical to mono-pose, which is the majority of modern GW kits for things.

It just means that the model can be "pushed" together quickly. Cut the tabs short and just glue together and its a bog standard model.

GW does this because the starter sets are welcomer kits for newbies so they try to make them as fast to get to the table as possible for a new person. So push-fit designs that you can push together and go.

I just cut the inserts and glue them up like normal (if you don't you run the risk of the tab not sealing all the way with the glue and getting stuck part way and being an utter mess).

They are the same details, same quality as regular models. The only thing is if they are already in the starter set you can often get them cheaper by

1) Buying the starter and selling the half you don't want with another person

2) Getting cheaper split kits off ebay

Basically, they make push fit mono-pose stuff for starter sets. If the unit is popular enough they make a stand alone kit with more weapon options. If its not popular enough they just repackage the starter unit for individual sale.

See the difference between Infiltrators/Eliminators and Suppressors.

I don't think its even based on popularity either.
