Do you use fortifications in your games? I don't see them in any lists and curious if anyone use them.

I'm currently using the Frag Drill, Landing Pad, & and Imperial Bunker in my Crusade force.
In the past I've used the trench line, Vortex Missle Silo, & various gun emplacements.
Ive also used Earthshaker emplacements, Necron Pylons, abd the orks Mek Workshop in the past year.

They're kind of in the same boat as flyers. They're mostly just priced way too high for what you get, so it feels kind of bad using them. Plus, and maybe I'm just misremembering due to edition lag, I *think* the rules still currently make you place them away from other pieces of terrain. Which can make it really hard to find a useful spot to plop them down.
|
ATTENTION. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.

Good to know. Must be a piece of edition lag I never got around to re-learning.
I think I used my webway gate in a single game at some point this edition? It was basically a liability. It just doesn't really do anything at all (except give your opponent something defenseless to charge and/or kill) unless your opponent makes the mistake of wandering right next to it.

Do you use fortifications in your games?
-Yes
Since our group plays core 5th ed rules we have the core rules for fighting in building of course but i also have the expansion book stronghold assault.
I have a large collection of fortification terrain that runs from the aegis defense line all the way up to an aquila strong point. we also have a tau player with the tidewall
armies in 5th ed are allowed a detachment of fortifications and they fit thematically especially when armies like imperial fists show up on the table.
This wasn't part of any specific army just terrain, but we have it and the rules to use it if you want to make it part of your force.

I don’t think I’ve seen a fortification on the table since 7th.

Especially after their last "revamp" and and there were "tournament tables" you couldn't even deploy one on.

My WHFB armies were Bretonians and Tomb Kings. |

Ork Admiral Kroozin Da Kosmos on Da Hulk

They are great assets for narrative missions, we regularly use classics like the fortress of redemtion or bastion here, as well as some of the faction terrain for that purpose. None of that terrain is ever paid by points. Either it's part of the mission, or people get it as a reward/handicap. The only faction terrain which sees play in a regular way is the Death Guard one because it isn't completely worthless for its costs and the Marine bunker because people just love the model.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe. |
