Starting a new marine army and i was given 40 mk6 marines and a conemptor dread.
I don’t want to use tactical squads so knowing that how would you use them in a 40k list?

Count as intercessors is my immediate thought but where do i get a grenade launcher?

Use the Contemptor as an old school box dread?

Any ideas?

You were gifted 40 beaky boys?! Nice!

Intercessors is a good way to use them. You can probably just cut the grenade launcher part off of some intercessor bits and glue them onto these guys' bolters or something similar.

Alternatively, consider using them as infiltrators (the more experienced first born have the experience needed to sneak up on the enemy more reliably) or as sternguard. Just say that the sternguard are using "special ammo" (a thing they used to have rules for), and that that's why your guns are using combi-weapon stats. Those devastating wounds you just inflicted were totally from the kraken rounds!

ATTENTION
. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.

You could get some combi weapons and have one in the squad to counts-as the AGL for an intercessor squad.

If you pick up the 30k special weapon pack you could use plasma and flamers to make hellblasters/infernus marines

WYSIWYG isn't really a thing (at this point) so you don't need to do anything. I'd also look into doing a chapter/legion so they can double-duty in Horus Heresy based on paint scheme.

My WHFB armies were Bretonians and Tomb Kings.

40 beakies painted black would make for an awesome Raven Guard army...

Literally buy a bag of plastic tubes (Evergreen has a great assortment) and make some underbarrel launchers. $10 tops.

1st, pick wich types of squads/characters you want to make.

2nd, pick up boxes of the 30k special, heavy, assault weapons &/or bitz order weapons as needed.

As for the Contemptor? I'd run it as a Contemptor since it has a Legends data sheet.

You do kind of a need to buy 40 bases, as the the HH marines come on too small ones to use in w40k. A friend of mine had a IF/BT army, that was made out of HH assault space marines and despoilers, magnetized to regular marine bases. So he could use them both in HH and w40k. He use templars as brethern, volkite HSS as hellblasters. He used terminators and scouts on their regular bases as those are the same in both games.

If you have to kill, then kill in the best manner. If you slaughter, then slaughter in the best manner. Let one of you sharpen his knife so his animal feels no pain.

I'd buy the Close Assault weapon upgrade kit to start with, followed by the special weapons upgrade kit. That would already give you a bunch of options on what to run them as.

I thought all basic power armor marines, both 30 and 40k, were on 32mm?

just personal opinion here but i really like the primaris marines and would like to include them. if i add a box on intercessors would you mix the armor types or keep them separate?
im sure theres no right or wrong but i like to hear what others think.
head cannon is its just units being upgraded as they suffer loses.

10th has worked real hard to get rid of the primaris/firstborn line. We are starting to see firstborn units, like sternguard, just modernized . And units like assaunt intercessors are basically assault marines. NMNR wargear options nonwithstanding. We’ll see what happens in 11th.

As long as it;s clear what the unit is, nobody should care about armor marks. I suspect we’re heading down the road where mkX tacticus armor will be just as relevant as mks 2-8 to game stats.

i really should play HH, i enjoy the older minis, probably nostalgia getting me... lol.

having said that i also love the new stuff so that's killing me too.

i'm thinking blood ravens or alpha legion since they seem to make sense from a mix of old and new equipment standpoint but i know there are a few other chapters that this would make sense of out there too.
maybe the consecrators too... too many choices lol.

the scales and color on alpha are kind of scaring me though haha.

I used them to combine with the emperor's children tormentors, the kit has enough options for both melee and shooting infantry. The MK VI are a bit smaller but not really noticeable, adding something small to the base and swapping shoulderpads / backpacks / heads helps.
Got 20 for the price of 10 in a sense (had mine left over from the old AoD box)

I'd mix them without hesitation or 2nd thought same as I've done for every other mk of armor released over the years.

Mostly I did this just for some variety.
Sometime necessity- GW used to sell models several per blister & the shop didnt always have enough of a certain armor mk, or I'm building squads out of mixed stuff from ebay lots, etc.
There's never been any head cannon, deep thought, or lore attached to my doing this.
