Does anyone have any recommendations for 40k anthems or ambience official or not? I'm looking to get a playlist together for hobby and game sessions. Seems like a lot of 40k themed fan music is power metal which I'm not a real fan for.
Go hunt down a band called Gothic Storm. They essentially have really short songs that hover around 2 minutes and sound like they are the final battle to any movie.
If you are looking for things that flow, grab all of Steve Jablonsky's Transformers Soundtracks. The movies might not be amazing, but his scores fit 40k games perfectly.

"Vulkan: There will be no Rad or Phosphex in my legion. We shall fight wars humanely. Some things should be left in the dark age." "Ferrus: Oh cool, when are you going to stop burning people to death?" "Vulkan: I do not understand the question."

Not bad, it's relaxing at least though I'm only listening to one song. When I think of 40k I either think of Industrial, or the Djent intros on Tabletop Tactics.
The obvious one for me to go for ambience would be soundtracks of various games, Dawn of War, Space Marine and so on.
Some work better than others, for example Warhammer Total War is a great game but the soundtrack on its own kind of annoys me
GW did publish a WH40K album a while ago, it was pretty good for game sessions I found. It's available on iTunes and probably other platforms.
"Warhammer 40,000: Angels of Death (Original Score)" by Jonathan Hartman.

Good call.
