Todays action, a break from escalation Leage matches. My Tau vs a relatively new Tyranid player. 1k pts.

*Heavy Gun Drones (Legends) x2 - burst cannon & marker lights

Experimental Prototype Cadre, no enhancements.
Why? Dirt simple detachment rule. Not counting the strats, there's
1 thing to remember. +6" range on all guns.
* I LOVE playing things that are rarely/never seen.

In this case anything I've put an * next to - over 1/2 my list this time!.
In the case of the Lone Spear & Hounds it might just be a local feeling of "Meh" about them from the few other Tau players. They don't seem too interested in Kroot.
The other 5 entries in this category? I have been assured that these things are useless/bad. They are not, just not top tourney tier & definitely underappreciated.
And I love the confused reactions opponents/spectators have when they're confronted by a force that doesn't match their vision of what they THOUGHT they'd see when they heard "I'll bring Tau".
Potential weakness: A large portion of this list doesn't benefit from the Guide rules. 5 units have no OC. The hounds only have OC when near a Kroot character. 2/3 of my heavy rail cannon only hit on 5s.
Knowing the foe was a Vanguard assault force, the hounds & Gun Drones spent the 1st 2 turns hanging out providing backfield screening services. No need to have something nasty deep striking in behind on T1.
Once the winged Tyrant had landed they were free to go cause trouble. Increasing gun ranges by 6" came in handy at this point for the drones.
The Strike Teams cruised into battle aboard the GunRigs with the Drone Port running ahead. This caused the Tryanid player some grumbling, as to get to the Tau inside he had to chew through /get past the riggs & port.
Believe it or not, these things didn't immediately evaporate & the Tau inside were allowed to deploy on their own terms.
On the Tyranid end of things? His list was kinda weak & absolutely not played aggressive ly enough.
In the end? It was a good day.
1) A Tau victory! 50something to 20some.
2) My opponent, having seen cool Tau models in action (& even more in my transport cases), is starting his own Tau force. When he left the shop he had several Tau kits & a smaller bank act.
3!) I'm getting a free Droneport!
One of the people spectating was like,
"You'll use those things? (Me: yes) I have one sitting on my shelf the shop wouldn't take in trade a few years ago, do you want it? (Me: how much?) Free. No one else wants it, at least you'll use it. (Me: Thank you!, I will give it a good home & it will see play)
