Greetngs,

We are looking for a 10mm rule set and I listened to a podcast about Hobgoblin. Sound good so far, but I cannot ascertain how basing works. if we are coming from warmaster, will it be fairly easy to develop some trays for our 40 x 20 stands? What about leaders / Generals -- are they on rounds? Are there larger sizes for bolt throwers, catapults, and the like? Lastly, if you have played, do you enjoy the rules? Please help us out if you know, as there are no discords or facebook groups I can locate about this game system, which is odd. I know it has a following. Thanks.

Did you find the official discord? That's the one I am on.

Hobgoblin really is a great system. There's a lot to be said for having a complete game in a book, including everything you'll ever need to make your own armies, rather than additional army books and expansions always being needed.

There is also a really good official army builder for it.

Are you going to use the 28mm scale base sizes for making gigantic-looking Warmaster armies, or are you just halving all the standard sizes and use centimeters for ranges instead of inches to make the game 10mm scaled? I know that's the main conversion I hear anyone do.

Thanks for feedback. To paint less, we'll use the 10 / 15mm minimums. But I don't understand how units get bigger or more powerful if they grow in size. Or are they always just a base w/ keywords? I ordered the book today btw.
Centimeters instead of inches sounds reasonable, unless the rule book states other ways to do it.

Yes, a base with keywords. There's an online list builder somewhere.

A unit does not change in power relative to size, if you are looking at the "legal" size range for, example, a Wide or Narrow unit. The design ethos of Hobgoblin figures that if you want a really big unit base, the innate downside to that is that it's easier to target and harder to maneuver because it covers so much real estate on the table.

The only time that a unit gets more powerful with physical size is if you give them the "Horde" keyword, which makes them twice as hard to kill, but has a larger minimum size a unit needs to be.

got it, that makes sense Aegis. My book will arrive soon.

I checked out the rules for magic, and playing cards, as well as the Doom phase. Good stuff.

Here's one of my printed units, from Forest Dragon. Hobgoblin will allow me to field both undead and goblins together, which is so much fun.
