Hey all

I have been away from the game for a very long time( 5 editions really(. What do I need to start playing again from a book perspective? I assume Core Book and Codex? What about the Combat Patrol book, Mission Objective cards, etc.

Thanks in advance.

You really don't NEED the core book. It's available as a PDF from the downloads. Codex you need for sure and Mission Objective cards are also important though generally you can play as long as one player has them.

Combat Patrol book is just a faction overview fluff piece. It's got value but in no way needed to play.

The official app is generally very helpful as well. You need a code from the Codex to unlock your army rules in it but I find it does a good job filtering rules down to just what's relevant to my army.

If you want to play Combat Patrol games you will likely want to get the book as it will have the rules to play that game inside.

Thanks. I have the app downloaded and read the PDF but I like to have a physical copy.

So mission cards and codex for the army.

Thanks guys.

Based on reviews, yes.

It sort of is.

The book does contain rules for some of the combat patrols, but those same rules and the complete list of all combat patrol rules can be found for free in the Warhammer Community downloads. Currently the 10th edition version is still up but they have already stated the updated version will go there or the app.

The book seems like it might be a fun lore and art book, but it is not necessary for the rules. The book as a rulebook is useful if you really like physical rulebooks, hate printing out free rules, and don't mind still having to cross reference those rules to make sure that they haven't errata'd it at some point in the past.

Access to a printer has saved me a lot of money over the years.

Still waiting for Godot.

I noticed the book doesn't mention Imperial or Chaos Knight Combat Patrols at all.

But based on what I've seen it gives a vague overview of the rules and then points you to the app for more details.
