If you equip a Tau battlesuit with ASS, do its controlled drones also count as having ASS? (See p.25 of the Tau Empire book for details of ASS.)

I don't have the codex with me, so I can't answer directly, but if I remember, drones have the same equipment that their controllers have, i.e. drones for stealth teams have stealth, jet packs if they're with crisis, etc.

I don't think it matters though, as drones have no restriction on moving and firing, so whatever you roll for ASS, move the drones that distance.

I'm not sure if it could be argued that the drones can always move 6 inches as long as they stay within 2 inches of the broadsides though.

My thinking exactly. I am not convinced the rules lead there. ASS: If one model has it then all must have it. If one model uses it then all must use it. The unit may still take drones (? what ever that means...) Drones take unit type as owner. Stealth units grant the Stealth ability to their drones. The usual GW mess, really.

Nah, attached drones don't get the Advanced Stabilization System. First of all, they can't purchase it as a hardpoint option, as Drones don't come with a hardpoint. Next, Drones taking same unit type as owner, well, Stabilized is not an unit type. The unit type would be Infantry for a Broadside or Jump Infantry for a Crisis or Stealth suit. The rules for Stealth field specifically grant the Stealth ability to attached drones, so that's out.

Thanks for clearing that up. I was wondering where in the Tau codex the donkeys were listed but I could't find them. Now that I know they're not there I'll finally be able to sleep.

I have nothing useful to add.

Yeah it doesn't float per my reading. If the drone rules said simply: 'moves as owner' then it would grant the drones Slow and Purposeful also, but it doesn't say that. Drones assume the movement mode of the Type of unit they are attached to, activating A.S.S. has no effect on this category, so drones aren't going to benefit.
