Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

I just tried to take a screenshot of my 25x25 foundation for my first bunker... and the game crashed. It saved the changes to my inventory... but not the changes to the map. So I just effectively lost 625 blocks of stone-- vanished into thin glitch.

Were you sneaking while taking the screenshot? that seems to cause crashes for me. It is very annoying I lost two whole rooms of my base due to that happening.

Activating f3, having chat open then pressing f1 before taking a screenshot kills the game for me.

Also where in gods name are the screenshots taken with f2 saved ?

When that happened to me I had the fun of loading in mid air the next time. This is where I was standing at the time.

Creates a new folder in the minecraft folder called screenshots. The minecraft folder can be found in the application data and is called .minecraft, if you're running Windows that is. The quick way of getting there is to use the run command and type %appdata%.

For Win7/Vista they're here:

C:\Users\Yournamehere\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\screenshots

Not sure about XP or Macs

It's a hidden folder so if you've not got those set to be visible you'll need to do so.

EDIT: Gah ninja'd

To spider proof it just use some half stone blocks or curve the outlet down to a single block wide. I really like the bi-level tree farm Don't see much practical use for it but it does look cool.

To navigate I used my cartographer map and the compass. Allowed me to find my way home when I went exploring. I built my castle about half a kilometer from my spawn so for all but the closets navigating the compass pointed home and once I was close enough for it to matter I knew the terrain well enough to just visually find my way back.

Oh, and you're going to need more than two chest of mats of that kind of castle. I think I've probably used twenty or thirty double wide chests full of mats for the whole thing. It's a LOT of mining and digging.

Ohhh, I like the sand pyramid, and you capped it in gold, nice.

I have issues with screenshots now. I have to remind myself to save the game and quit to the loading screen then re-enter and take the shot. Usually doesn't crash then and if it does I just saved. If I don't save and reload the game a screenshot will crash the game 90% of the time.

Yeah, screenshots seem buggy now.

I put the second floor in simply to make harvesting wood easier. Thanks for the spider proofing tip it'll be nice to go to collect stuff and not have a spider shrieking at me. Still need to expand the mob spawning pit thouhg a simple 10x10 area for them to spawn on does limit production but since I'm using a modular design adding more space is easy.

I know, I know. I would never attempt anything that big I'd lose interest for too quickly, I'm just looking to build something much smaller in a similar style.

Screenshots are fine for me

Some shots of my singleplayer project, dug out over 3000 blocks of sand so far for this.

(grr at photobucket for reducing the size of the image).

With a bit of help from InvEdit to replace the lost stone (grrr I say grr) and a lot of forest clearing to get the wood needed for the fences and ladders (because FETH trees!), here's the first bunker and its associated watchtower:

Building watchtowers like that is a total pain in the ass. You have to build the fences (those thin wooden poles are single fences built vertically) down, not up.

Now to build four more smaller bunkers and connect them all with trenches.

I just found out that on peaceful mode you regenerate health faster than being on fire can hurt you.

Yep, however when you are first on fire it seems to do more damage than when you are just casually burning.

what mobs are good to use the mob grinder on? in my exploration i found 2 spider spawns fairly close to eachother. should i try to build a harvester for these or am i better off just clearing it out?

Skeletons and creepers are the most useful ones to farm.

For the amount of string you need it's much easier to just kill spiders.

I get everything out of my mob farm. I only care about arrows and gunpowder.

Out of curiosity, what's the dividing line for a mega-project? And yes, I'm wondering if my castle qualifies. As for doing something similar I'll post the floor plan for the castle today sometime. That's the important part, once you get that first level laid our right the rest is just going vertical.

Mellissia, got any close ups of that tower? If you need wood a tree farm is a good investment. It's a quick way to get a lot of wood without having to deforest your surroundings. Add in bone meal and you can generate wood at a hellacioius rate.

Nick, I've never had an issue with spiders in my farm. They always die in the guillotine. Never had one survive it.

If you expanded your castle to be full of well furnished or interesting rooms then it would be a megaproject, as it stands my pyramid isn't a megaproject but when it is completed and full of puzzles/challenges then it would be.

Yeah I think I know what's causing it, the water level under the guillotine is too low and the spiders just float underneath, I reckon if I raise the water level a bit (or move the guillotine forwards) that'll fix all my problems. I won't do that though until I expand the spawning area above which I'll do once my new entrance is finished.

Well the keep is going to have plenty of rooms in it. I've got to get the hang of building minecraft furniture but I'll have a master bedroom, bathroom, fireplace, and a few other things to make the upper keep interesting.

20+ rooms would push it into megaproject, anything less and its just a really awesome house.

Sure. The only thing impressive about it is its height and the amount of effort it took to build its damnable wooden support beams.

A close-up from the ceiling of the first level of the bunker. The second level is nothing more than a housing for the ladder leading up to the watchtower.

And there is the view from inside the tower. I changed it to glass walls for the sake of increasing the amount of area I could see from it. as stated, it's not that impressive except for its height and the amount of time it took to do the damn support beams. A single torch is more than enough to have it completely lit, and the top of it is at the ceiling of the map.

Now it's time to work on the trenches.

This isn't the update, my SMP servers work fine.

It appears your connection to the host is iffy or the host has less ram operating the server.

I need to start constructing my cannon now, and i'm too lazy to start farming for mobs for now (I'll leave that whenever I'm done with this project) so I'm gonna just invedit the needed tnt for the cannons on the outer bunkers. I did construct one bunker and a single part of the trenches though:

I like how they came out. The floor is a wooden half-block (wood slab) and the walls are two wood high, giving a very nice height for the PC, who can see out when standing and is hidden when crouched. Now I'm gonna work on the cannon design ontop of the outer bunker I've built, and going to see if I can build two ontop of that-- one facing each direction outward from the square complex of bunkers I've made.

Using the new redstone repeaters to create a delay, I created a cannon with apparently far too much kick, I didn't see where the TNT landed. So it's time to tone down the amount of charge I give it. I'll see if I can get a video capture of it being fired, and when I'm done, I'll close it up to make it look like a proper cannon housing (and like any proper cannon it needs to be reloaded from the inside) and get screenshots of it.

OKay, there, perfected it. Anyone have any recommendations for free video capture?

Automatically Appended Next Post:

First cannon of the artillery park completed, extended the trench a little bit. Going to have to deal with a lake that's in the way of my trench, but just filling it in with dirt will suffice, I have plenty of it anyway.

The cannon is a one button affair, with most of its redstone circuitry hidden. I should actually tear it up and make it one height level smaller than it is because the second rack is too much firepower.
