I just read the book guardian of the forest. Here are some ideas for new units for wood elves. Eternal guard cavalry Same rules for eternal guard, but add a horse. That gives them 4+ armor and fast cavalry rule 24pts unit size 5-10 Forest swarm Just as the jungle swarms

I am sorry but those ideas are not to great. The Eternal Guard are supposed to be bodyguards and fast cavalry are not that greatfor putting a generl or bsb in. Also the swarms kinda defy the purose of WE. we use Hit and run units or units that break the enemy on the charge. The EG and treekin are good enough anchors so forget the swarms. Also what will the swarm contain, squirrels and chipmunks with rabies?

I?m sorry I didn't know that actual wood elf?s are on this forum. Do not refer to yourself as we when talking about a fantasy army. But about your questions. Swarms would be made up of forest spites. Also your view on the eternal guard wile valid is only half right. The eternal guards are also defending the sacred places of the forest not just nobles. Also the wood elf?s being a fast hit and run, ambush army as you said, would it not make sense to have noble with a fast cavalry unit that?s stubborn?

gpoint, are you familiar with the use of acronyms? SM for Space Marines, O&G for Orcs and Goblins, WE for Wood Elves.
I could see a swarm making sense. But swarms are very powerful in WH (Warhammer) and would probably be a bit excessive. Of course, if you make anything expensive enough it'll be balanced.
I'm not aware of any Stubborn cavalry units in WH. Most Stubborn units are defensive/bodyguard oriented units, designed to hold a position without breaking. Which is really the role of infantry. Quite the opposite of Fast Cavalry. Your suggested unit's role would seem to overlap with Wildriders a great deal.
BTW, Glade Riders used to have the options of light armor and shield to get that 4+ save, but GW took it out in the new army book. Seems that their current concept for the army is for the elves to just not have saves that good.

Yes, I have heard of acronyms and I don?t like them, because there are million acronyms. Case in point SM for space marines or SM for the sex act. This can take a convention completely the wrong way. So because I don?t know how everyone thinks, I spell everything out, so everyone knows what I?m talking about. On the swarms I figured there would be a restricting on them. Like you have to have one forest spirit in the army or only in an army that includes one unit of dryads. Also yes they would be pricey. But all swarms are. You are right on the stubborn cavalry, that it?s overlaps the wild riders. But wild riders are not stubborn, there immune to psychology. The units of eternal guard cavalry also only get stubborn if there a character in the unit. The wild riders in my mind are light cavalry. Because of there light armor, I was thinking a medium cavalry unit, that had a better armor save then just +5. So the unit of eternal guard cavalry has eternal guard fighting style giving them a +5 save and being mounted a gives them a lower save of +4 On the turn charge they uses there weapons as spears (+1 strength) and then any turn after that they get +1 attack because they count as having extra hand weapon.

The units of eternal guard cavalry would have a new rule, like the wild riders fury of kurnous. which allows them to have +1 attack on turns they did not charge. It would be worked into the eternal guard fighting style rule.

I'd like to see Druids, that can change into different forms.
Also, Owlbears and/or Furbolgs would be cool "ally" units.

I'd like to see a number of other armies get new units first, like Dark/High Elves, Empire, VC...

I used to think Dark Elves needed slave units, and sprite swarms, from a fluff perspective. I have changed my mind. If I want an army that has slave units and swarms, I'll play Skaven. Then I get the added bonus of being able to shoot not only the slave unit, but my own troops as well.
Anyway, 7th ed. has changed the swarm dynamic. All swarms are now Unbreakable; and all swarms crumble like undead. (oh, how irritating! the new rulebook has an index... but it is hardly comprehensive.) Ah, p. 53 under Unbreakable.

it latches on to the first idea to come along, good or bad; and it takes strenuous effort with a crowbar to make it let go.

There has to be guts to be gutted, the VC book sunk in it last outing. There is no place to go but up. Hoppfully they put the fangs back in the vampires mouth.

For starters, why did this thread get raised from the dead (pun intended)?
Secondly, VC did NOT stink. Indeed, some of the scariest (pun still intended) armies I've run into are VC. While not all options were worth taking (is there ANY army where all options are worth taking?), much of the army worked very well. In fact, some builds (Therion's summon horde, for one) work a little too well.
