I have had this army list in my head for a while and i want to see what everyone here thinks of it. I also have 38 points left and i like to add rough riders for fast attack but bont know where to cut the points, anyways on to the list.
HQ 3X Asp. Chamion attached to mutants (see mutant squads)
Troops 1 24 bloated mutants with 2 flamers Bloated mutant Boss with Powerfist Asp. Chamion with Mutation, bolt pistol and powerfist
Troops 2 24 bloated mutants with 2 flamers Bloated Mutant Boss with Powerfist Asp. Chamion with Mutation, bolt pistol and powerfist
Troops 3 24 bloated mutants with 2 flamers Bloated Mutant Boss with Powerfist Asp. Chamion with Mutation, bolt pistol and powerfist
Troops 4 5 traitors with 3 lasguns, plasma gun and Lascannon
Troops 5 5 traitors with 3 lasguns, plasma gun and Lascannon
Troops 6 5 traitors with 3 lasguns, plasma gun and Lascannon
Heavy Support 1 Leman Russ with heavy bolter hull and sponsons
Heavy Support 2 Leman Russ with heavy bolter hull and sponsons
Heavy Support 3 Leman Russ with heavy bolter hull and sponsons
Point total: 1462 Model count: 96
This army is still very much in the planning stages, as i have yet to finish my death guard, but I want to get a solid list to make purchases from so all C&C welcome.

You should beef up your las-plas squads they are gonna be the target of your opponent's smaller squads. At 6pts each you could add 2 more per squad.
Or if you really want cavalry drop some mutants, maybe 18 total. Not sure about the points on a bloated mutant though. But that will leave each squad with 18 mutants, one mutant boss, and one aspiring champion for 20 per unit. The 25% panic check one drops by two casualties per unit to five for a panic check. If those mutants cost 7-8 points a piece that gives btw 126-144 points. Add in the free 38 point you had left and you should be able to buy two units of cavalry.

I played LatD for quite a while. Here are my suggestions:
EL: Add 2 or three obliterators.
TR: Drop one unit of mutants. Drop the flamers, you'll rarely use them. All you need is 50, and more variety makes LatD work thematically. Give the ACs spiky bits. Drop one unit of traitors, drop the special weapons, and downgrade the lascannon to an autocannon (more shots, infiltrate means side armor on vehicles.) Add 2 5 man marine tank hunting squads with lascannons.
FA: Hounds or Rough riders gives you some fast moving, dangerous, yet cheap targets that keep other stuff alive.
HS: 3 Leman Russes is rather dull. Defiler and Leman russ work well, draw fire from the Oblits and marines, and can't be ignored. Even a nekkid defiler lasts pretty long in cover. Instead of the third leman russ, consider 5 chaos spawn. at T5, they can't be instakilled and wll attract a lot of high strength firepower, leaving you obliterators alive.
An important tactic/strategy I found with building/playing LatD is that you have two types of units... 1) Game winners. 2) Those that are meant to get shot. For each game winner, you need another unit that attracts that type of fire which is a more immediate threat. Rough Riders are turn 2 chargers, which can soak up a round of shooting that would otherwise go to the mutants. Defiler, Leman Russ, and Chaos Spawn attract fire that would otherwise go to the obliterators and chaos marines which are your anti-vehicle units. The traitors, at 55 points each, are throwaway units that can hold table quarters, distract Berzerkers, and be a real pain to an opponent for a relatively low point cost. Mutants, tank hunting marines, and obliterators are the game winners of the list.
As you go to higher points, consider furies for the turn 2 charge possibility 1/2 the time.
A good LatD list can outshoot Iron Warriors, out assault berserkers, and generally make life miserable for anyone they face.

Solid.
From there, you can tweak to your own playing style and add as points dictate, but that should be a good start to an army.
It's got the Big Papa seal of approval.
(and that plus 25 cents will get you a cup of coffee, except where coffee costs four bits.)

I like the list. If it were mine, I'd tweak it here and there to find enough points to buy MoCU marks for the 2 champions. (At 20 points ea., it may sound expensive, but since it effectively "buys" the reroll for the entire mutant mob, it's really not.) Taking a basilisk instead of a defiler would be one place to get some points. Or you could sacrifice either one of the traitor squads or the rough riders -- and give the defiler indirect fire with the extra new points. That would make your defiler much more intimidating, since it would be able to hide behind cover in your deployment zone.

Are greater daemons worth using in an LatD army? Big mutants?
Not to highjack the thread but I was considering a similar list but with a bit more... daemon.

Greater demons can be effective, but they do require the sacrifice of a champion. If the champion has been heading a mutant mob, that mutant mob suddenly becomes a lot less effective (particulalry in terms of leadership). You could draw the demon through a champion assigned to an alllied CSM squad. Most LatD players use allied CSM squads to beef up anti-tank firepower (e.g., 6-marine squad with a las-cannon)--in which case your demon vessel will be positioned behind the front lines, more often than not. But you could put a champion in an infiltrating squad and summon there.
Big mutants cost a lot of points and are very vulnerable to firepower. Most LatD players rely on other choices for close combat (e.g., spawn, which are very tough and a bargain, points-wise; or summoned demons; or mutants with buried powerfists).

Tinfoil where do you play?
I like the idea you put forth with the GD. I was originally thinking having him lead a traitor guardsman squad with infiltrate and have him pop there. I wasnt even thinking of allied CSM heh.

Hmmm. Are there many 40k players there? I live in Quincy and dont fancy the idea of taking the T into Harvard square. The other gaming place near by is in Abington (Battlegrounds) but the 40k presence is me and who ever I bring with me, mostly card game players there.

How about an allied chaos lord? Im wondering why no-one has suggested using one of those? Tried LatD with moderate success, and the chaos lord was one of my better units. Your ways of building the army seem more effective though; I had way too few mutants.

Papa has steered you in the right direction. I would remove the flamers from the mutant squads and put a Dirge Caster on the defiler. That way if you run into a drop podding army, you can surround the Defiler with mutants and traitors and have them all be fearless from Fear the Darkness.

Chaos Lord: 180+ points to be effective. Independent character who can be instakilled. Not a scoring unit. 5 attacks base, 6 on the charge.
Aspiring champion: 83 points w/ MCU. Not an independent character who instakills independent characters. Part of a scoring unit. 4 attacks base, 5 on the charge.
There is no need for an independent character in a LotD list. (as far as I have seen). For those 180 points, you can get 10 hounds and 5 chaos spawn, or a Defiler, or 2 obliterators and 5 hounds. Any of those choicess are more better and more effective over time than a single chaos lord.
Again, just from my experience, but I think not taking the Chaos Lord is a good start. Just think, in missions where you have to kill the enemy general, you have to wade through 26-30 wounds to get him, with no instakills available. Not a bad deal eh?
Greater Demon is bad news. Period. Your two realistic choices are Bloodthirster and Lord of change. Either way, you're adding a non scoring unit that doesn't do anything that other units in your list can do, and better. Consider that same Aspiring champion with 205 points of bloated mutants. Who is scarier, the 'thirster with his attacks, or 4 str 8, 4 str 6, and a multitude of str 3 attacks?
More boys, less toys.
And if DarthDiggler, the porn star, is agreeing with me, you know it's got to be good.
