I've come up with some modelling ideas for a 'feral' imp guard list and I want to hear what folks think. about 'em.

The list fluff puts this force as a remote death world's militia. The planet of Ulundi IV in the Natal sector of Keate's drift has been out of contact with the imperium for centuries due to warp storms. As a result, any equipment that relied off-world technical support has long since been cannibalized for parts. The militia luckily had a large depot of infantry weapons.

With the loss of imperial technical support the planet's population has suffered as much of its infrastructure has collapsed. While this has forced the population to steadily revert to indigenous ways it has not dimmed their faith in the emperor. This has resulted in the evolution of tribal cultures worldwide.

The militia has had to make force changes accordingly. Native fauna has been conscripted into imperial service. The standard militiaman comes from a hardier stock of tribesman than his urban predecessors. Militia detachments are often the personal guard of the local ruling tribal clan.

Tanks

Leman Russ stand-ins are lizardmen stegadons fitted with cannons, machinguns, and armor plates.

Basilisk stand-ins are field guns mounted on wagons and pulled by boars.

Infantry

They are all covered in war paint, feathers, and hides. What armor they do wear is piece meal at best. The sergaents and officers carry warspears and lizardmen shields Veterans, vet. sgts and officers wear hideous masks to terrify their enemies. Heavy weapons are often decorated like indigeous predators (with chaos vehicle sprue bits).

Cavalry

Rough riders are mounted on cold ones and carry lances and shields. The riders wear headdresses made from ferocious predators.

Neat idea. Before you blow your money on Stegadons, though, do a search on ebay for Void Veridians. They had a bunch of plastic kits of giant dinosaurs with sci-fi guns/howdahs mounted on 'em. Make great Russ stand-ins (a buddy uses them for that very purpose).

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

@syr you mean this guy

Oh yeah. Anybody got any ideas on what kind of creature would make a good hellhound? Possibly an orc wyvern w/out the wings? Or maybe a dark elf hydra?

Check out some of the fantasy Knights for pelts, some more dramatic heads and stuff like that.

Can't see the image, but I'll say 'yes' for the heck of it.

oops! sorry about that the link must be bad.

I found the void viridian assault tank creature thingy and it costs more than stegadons ordered as bits from the GW online store. It was also a little more techno than I'd like.  I'm thinking something more feral but not quite orky.

I'm thinking chaos marauders (w/out the horns and chaos stars) riding boars or cold ones or giant wolves while bedecked in totemic fetishes and animal headdresses carrying explosive tipped lances and wooden  shields.

But what is a good way to mount a large bore cannon on a howdah? I'll build an armored howdah from scratch but I don't really want a turret.  Swivel guns (think ships of the line) are too small. Some sort of recoil system needs to be rigged up. Maybe an AA swivel mount like on the WWII pom-pom guns.

As for a possible cannon replacement I was thinking of using most of a skaven warp lightning cannon or would that be too big?

I'm surprised at the price: they used to go for a song, especially on Ebay. Maybe the market's running out or something.

Anyway, good luck with the project and don't forget to bring back pics!

Do these guys look feral enough?

I found this and several others like it on a Rome Total War modder's forum posted by guy using the tag "Hoggy"

If you want to see some of the other pics he posted I'll put it up here... They include samurai and japanese demon units. (another list I've already begun modelling)
