Or will people at tournaments just keep playing space marines?

I don't really know the tournament scene, so correct me if I'm wrong
but the only time I ever heard of them giving a best Imperial/Heretic/
Xenos army was at Adepticon, and I think that was based on
things like theme/modeling/painting.

Would it affect army construction or army lists if the battle point
rewards were awarded based on best Imperial/Heretic/Xenos?

I was just thinking about this as I was packing my stuff for
Warmachine. Of course, Warmachine is different because they don't
have an army of the month problem with their releases (though your
neighborhood might see a bit of it). Just curious.

Please would you explain the idea in more detail?

Interesting idea, and I can see SOME players possibly fielding armies in order to do that. But I think that most players will still be going for the overall win. Not to mention, that division still lumps all forms of Space Marines, Imperial Guard, Witchhunters, Daemon Hunters into a single category, so it won't help you see more Cadians or Grey Knights at the table.

But it may help see more Tau, both Eldar, Ork's and Necrons.

Not sure if Heretics really has enough choices to split it out on its own though, being that it just involves Chaos for the most part.

What he's talking about is in warmachine/hordes tournaments, you get medallions as trophys. You have the overall winner of the tournament. And you have best of each faction.

All problems can be solved with proper use of a high powered rifle and a water tower

I understand.

The problem is, as Hans pointed out, that all the Imperial category is too large, the Chaos category is too small, and only the Xenos are "just right." I don't think it will make a lot of difference. A few very competitive tournament goers might change armies, I suppose.

Yair: Post-cuddle?

Killkrazy: Is there any other way to divide the universe?

It seems pretty darn near impossible as no one's really allied with
anybody else. It turns into a battle of Us v. Them (Imperium vs.
Everybody), and there are just way too many armies out there...

How about: Imperial, Xenos, Heretics, and Marines? The Marines catergory will still outnumber the rest, obviously... Chaos armies could be qualified in Heretics (over half points in daemons, for example), or move into the Marine category if it has above a certain percentage of Marines.

Just a thought.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake;
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

Yes, just what I was thinking. All SMs (not just the Codex SM SMs but the other like BT, BA, SW etc) should count in one category.

Put necrons in the heretic category, that way the xeno category is all non MEq and the heretic category is a bit bigger.

Xenos re the outsiders of the warhammer realm and are ofen left out of the big picture, while the main story seems to be base on chaos and imperial
