I am not sure where to post this so I will post one here for 40K and one in the fantasy section. Sorry for double posting, but  just was not sure. There relaly is not a category for tourneys and such.

Backfire explanation:
Allow me to explain the backfire award. It is sort of the arm chair general award, so to speak. It is actually a very good award to receive, as it says a lot about the player who wins it. Even though things don?t work out like they were planned the player keeps his head up and trys and trys again, it says a lot about the person as a whole. This is the person the hobby is made for. This person just loves to game, play, paint, whatever. Whether win or lose he shows up and again and again for the love of the game.

I also want to send out a huge thank you to all the players. Without you guys we would not have an event to run and put on, so thank you for coming and thank you for being the best of the best in the hobby. You guys are the reason people keep coming back, so thank you!!

This year was different, not better, not worse, just different. We did not have a special guest this year. We wanted to be more relaxed and just let people do what the wanted to do instead of having the whole weekend planned out for them. We did of course have our ever popular Chariot Racing event, and we were scheduled to have Warmachine and Hordes demos but our impromptu Q&A with Jeff from Games Workshop Baltimore kind of put a nix on that as people were all interested in hearing about 7th edition fantasy, more on GW later. The trains DID NOT RUN on time, so I want to apologize to the players, however, I do want to take a second and say that the players however were the reason the trains did not run on time. We had QUITE a few people not show up on time on Saturday and Sunday, as well as some no shows on Sunday. So a big sorry to those who actually got up and made it count, but a big shame on you to the guys who held everyone up, and then when they did show up they were like nothing happened, wanted more time to play and basically expected us to abolish their sins. Well, we didn?t, and they know it. Next year guys we will more than likely institute some new rules for late arrivals and the like, so please get there on time.

I also want to say sorry for the microphone. We had a problem with the PA system, so I apologize to everyone about the check, check, 1, 2, 1, 2, crap, feel free to blast away on that one.

A really HUGE thanks to GW. OMG, these guys really did it up. At the Colonial this year Matt, this regions rep came up to me and said he wanted to be involved with the necro. So over the next few months we talked, and I had no idea what the were going to do, big secret, and they did it right. GW provided Sci Fi City, a game store in Orlando with tons of prize support to be offered as giveaways at the event. They provided ALL sorts of box sets. Steam Tanks, nurgle daemon princes, dwarf battalion, a 40K battalion box set (not sure of race), and many more. Probably totally $700 - $800 worth in just minis, AND the provided 3 mega paint sets, count em folks, three, that is about $750 in paint AND, they gave away two very awesome awards. The awards include one of the paint sets, their limited edition wood box of paint brushes, bolter shell for water, brush soap, etc (all came in a nice limited edition wood box), and a glass etched plaque stating event, game system, and what the award was called, the total value was over $400 for these awards. GW then gave these out to the armies on both sides that they felt represented GW and their races best. The armies had to all be GW models, that was a stipulation for THEIR award, as we do allow all types of minis. Tom Keegan won for his awesome Slayer army and custom built boat they ride in, it is a sight to see, and I apologize as I did not write down who won the 40K army, but if anyone reading does, please post their name and army, as it was fantastic, I just can not remember, sorry guys. Games Workshop really stepped and gave out well over $1500 worth of prizes, as well Jeff did a Q&A about 7th edition Saturday night. They did not want to make this a GW event, they just wanted to be involved and help the hobby, and they did. I was though a bit skeptical about it at first, but afterwards I could not have been more pleased with what they did. I welcome Matt and Jeff, and GW back to The Necro anytime, thanks guys!!!

Another thanks goes to Mark from Sci Fi city for providing us with those cool GW prizes. Mark has a great radio voice as he used to do the news on the air, so having him announce the winning tickets was quite fun and a lot of fun was had at his expense, as it should have been!! Thanks Mark, we also welcome you and Sci Fi back at the Necro anytime!!!

All in all we had a great time. Stefan made some more great terrain for us this year, with more to come! The Necro crew ran the event very smooth, thanks to those guys. Without them we would not run as sharp as we do. There were  a few things that did not live up to being par for me and I will try to fix them next year. Hotel venue is a must, but in Orlando it is getting harder and harder to find as prices soar and hotel people get snobby. Orlando is in the top three for destination cities for conventions as well as being the third largest convention center in the country, so believe you me, convention space in O Town is tight so we do the best we can. There are also a few other things but I won?t bore you with behind the scene details, but there are some things that hopefully will be better next year!!

Again, thanks to all. I hope Tom Keegan?s back feels better. During game 4 his back completely went out on him and he stayed and played through the pain, Tom is a trooper and has joined the necro team, so Tom, we can?t wait to get your input and experience to work, it is going to be great!! Thanks to the 40K group, you guys really took the cake, seriously. I can?t thank you enough, and we REALLY look forward to having you all back next year and years to come. Thanks to Joe Fife for coming over and helping Jason Mitchell with all paper work, he could not have done it without your help. Thank you to Mrs. Adams  for bringing those delicious home made cookies each year, this year was no exception, as you could tell, they did not last very long. And a big thanks to the Orange County Convention Center and Mike from the OCCC. Mike really stepped it up and provided us with everything we needed, and on a timely manner. I could not have been any happier with the support the OCCC gave us with loading and loading out, Microphone help, and just great service. I look forward to going back to the OCCC if we are unable to secure our event in a hotel next year. The OCCC is a very nice place, large but nice, and by no means is it a second choice, however having our event in a hotel makes it all the better cause it keeps everyone together, keeps travel distance down and just makes it all the more fun for everyone involved. Thanks to Derek, a friend of Jason Mitchell. Derek printed everything we had to have including designing the certificates, and doing the color separation and t-shirt orders, thanks Derek!! Thanks to Doug Klem for designing yet another fantastic piece of art for the shirts at the necro. Doug really comes through each year with the art, and we feel we have some of the best art work out there. If you have not seen it please go to the necro site and look in the quick news section, thanks Doug! And one more thanks to a guy who made it work. He originally could not make it, but the stars aligned and the forces of good were on his side. Jim Livers, I know you had a ton of things going on, and I could not appreciate you coming down anymore, thanks Jim, it was great to have you in Florida. (Thanks David)

Well folks, that is about it. If I missed anyone I do so apologize. If anyone wants to add anything please feel free to do so. We can?t wait for next year. Our crew really enjoys running this event, we get a lot of satisfaction knowing we can provide you all with a tournament you can be proud of attending. All feedback is requested and appreciated, so if you have something to say, good or bad, please do so, so we can make this event better each year.

Just so you guys know, our goal for the necro is to make it the best event out there. We have all sorts of ideas for more game systems, retailers, game demos, etc. So you never know what you are going to get from the necro, we like to keep you guys on your toes.

Keep painting and playing, keep rocking and we will see you guys next summer!

Thanks!
The Necro Team, the 4 J?s!

PS ? Although with the addition of Tom, we will now be the 4 J?s with a T. Maybe JJTJJ, or TeeJay?..lame, I know!

Full results are posted on the website (www.thenecro.com) with pictures to follow as soon as we can get them formatted and posted.  A generous attendee has already posted some good pics though.  Curious to hear any feeback on the tables and terrain.

The tables were good and there was a fair amount of terrain. I realize this is an independent event! That said I would like to see a bit more terrain... maybe two pieces additional for each table. Table number 16 for the 40k games was really awesome... a couple more like that so everyone would have the opportunity to play on one at that scale would be sweet.

More terrain next year is certainly a top action item.  You can count on it.

Table 16 was "Assault on Canal Street", correct?  That is a Gale Force 9 table.  They are very well built and just nice tables to play on.  I had the benefit of "storing" it at my place for a few months leading up to the event.  Unfortunately, I had to leave the event to go directly to the airport, so I couldn't "borrow" it again immediately after.  They retail for quite a bit, but I know the Holliday's know the owner (Matt) pretty well.  I think they bought three at once and got a decent deal.  I'll certainly see what I can do to lobby for another GF9 table next year though.  I would just LOVE to see this one added to the event:

Thanks,

I beleive that I played on table 16 for my 4th game. Terrain was indeed awesome on the table but sadly the effect of it lessened by a mass infiltrating Iron warrior player who won initiative over me (lol). It was an uphill struggle to win but I pulled it off during the last two turns. (lol)

That makes it all the more rewarding then doesn't it? That table is well constructed. We had it sitting on table tops, but it actually has legs of its own, so it stores nicely and is sturdy as can be when set up. Anyway, glad you enjoyed it. I hope the event will add one or two more next year. At the very least, I hope the 40k side with grow significantly and more terrain and table types will be added.

GF9 tables rock...period. I wish that Sci-Fi could afford them. The scenery is nearly indestructable. At the store I used to play at back home had 8 of their tables. Great scenery makes for fun games and motivates you to finish up those unpainted parts of your army.

Interesting little titbit: If you played on a GF9 table, there's a ~50% chance my grubby little hands helped make it. (As I've helped build about half the ones in existence)

Is the Hathos table a one-off, or have there been multiple copies made? What does that table sell for anyway?

I totally agree CaptK, playing on a nicely designed and painted table makes you really want your army to be at that same level. Playing on the dining room table doesn't really push one to do a whole lot... Sci Fi's tables have improved quite a bit over the past year though haven't they? They were getting pretty warn out.

Yea, they sure have. Some of the tabels are very nice, and most of the rest are up to a good gaming standard. The best ones are the lava table, the desert city, and the other city table. The 4 snow ones are also good, but whats really made the terrain, in my opinion, great, is the drastic increase in cool modular terrain built.

I also got to play on the GF9 table in round three of the necro, very cool table. As cool as the table was, it was the worst possible round to play in a city as I was fighting nightlords. Stupid 3+ cover saves... the same game were my rail guns (all 3 of em) did nothing except kill an obliterator the entire game, despite getting a total of 4 direct, unobscured shots at a defiler (3 missed and the last one rolled a 1 to penetrate). But I did win that game (by 97 points over the draw range).

You have to love it when everything goes wrong and you still pull out the victory. Makes it all that much more rewarding.

Nice. Do you know the people that work for GF9, Ed? That's cool. Yeah the tables are cool and it would be nice to own one. Sadly, 900 bones is a chunk of change the I don't have.

Capt K with your terrain / modeling skills you should just make one. I'm in a different boat than you...plenty of money to blow on it without the skill to do it lol.

Hehe. Sadly my access to tools and space prevent me from really cutting loose on a table. While I live in a rather big apt. there just isn't the kind of space I need to build tables. I need my own garage..no worries though. Once I own a house that is on my priority list of things to do...hehe

Yeah, they're alot of money, but they're really top notch. I went down to help make them for the Colonial GT, as we needed to make alot very fast, and I'd never built tables before. Their attention to quality is very high. I just got used to the "real" staff coming behind us (3 of us went down) and fixing all of our little mistakes. It was usually stuff you or I would never notice, but they just would not let it through without being just right.

I was going to have them make me one with a removable table top, so I could stick it in my dining room and pull the top when I wanted to play, but the future Mrs. Maule put a nix on that. But I'll probably buy one after we move and I can get a gaming room again.

Well, the two I've seen in person have been two of the best overall tables I've seen. The assault on canal street and the Autumn forest one.

Yeah...I hear ya Ed. Ah, to have a gaming room again! That's a ways away for me. Where I used to game, I was spoiled 6 GF9 tables, all different kinds. I liked the one with the multiple sky scrapers. and their basic forest board was great for the versatility. Capt K

There were two stores I used to play at. I used to play at Hobbytown USA and Adventure Games Plus. AGP had the GF9 tables. Hobbytown had a selection of tables built by myself and some others. I used to work at the Hobbytown I gamed at. Both stores were in the Milwaukee, WI area. I grew up and lived in WI most of my life until a design job landed me here in Orlando. Midwest gaming heralds some top talent for sure. But I am discovering that there are some pretty good players in this area.
