There are ?bad eggs? in every gaming group in every single region in the country/world. <? It just doesn?t make any sense. I have traveled all over the east and a little in the Midwest playing gamers from all over the country and by in large if you end up going to one of these national events you are going to meet some great people. That is pretty much where I am going with this ? don?t let any of this bs that creeps its way onto the boards keep you from going to these big events. Every single one I have been to has given me stories that I will more than likely tell for the foreseeable future.

This must be some sort of fluke. There are no bad players in Texas. We're all mellow fellows drinking margaritas in the back 40 at the tables we set up between the oil derricks (nice shade), served by sassy senoritas, and occasionally firing off rounds at some angry jackalope varmints, who try to run off and bury our 2nd edition dreadnoughts.
I've heard there are no bad players in Oz as well, but that could just be a rumor by beer swilling armadillos bent on getting a hold of our Tex Mex.

My personal fave assumption Ed (and co) made was that the Hawaii players all sucked because they never went to GT's. Ok, he might not have said those exact words (I think it went more along the lines of "never played anyone from Hawaii, and the east coast gamers are generally recognized as being 'the best', so why should I take them seriously")
I thought it was absolutly fricken terrific when a guy I KNOW (from Hawaii) won 3rd place for the create a chapter contest. Recently, another guy I KNOW (from Hawaii) got some national attention for his painting and gaming for Warmachine.
I also recall when someone that was hot and heavy into the east coast gaming scene transfered to Hawaii (in the Navy) and promptly got his @$$ handed to him on a regular basis by everyone in the local gaming league (myself included).
It's been my opinion (and mine alone to the best of my knowledge) that East Coast gaming (at least to take Ed Maule's example) has a rather high opinion of itself. One that isn't warranted either.

Only two things come from Texas........... ....and hopefully one of them is this year's Superbowl Champs. "How 'bout them Cowboys?!" I've noticed that certain play styles are adopted regionally as many players emulate each other. Often certain styles that are frowned upon in one region as cheesy are redily accepted in another area as the norm. This can be the same with rules. Needless to say this can lead people to have animosity as they perceve others as cheesy or ouright cheating. I saw this alot as a CCG judge back in the day. For example the rules-lawyers in my old store ( used precedent (i.e. old codexes, how it was written in previous editions) as a reasoning for rules argument, so I have a distain for much of the RAW arguments here on Dakka.

My personal favorite was when he tried to convince me that the Chicago GT was the premeire GT in the country, and that the Los Angeles GT was "a joke." I would say, overall, that the Northeastern US players (at least, those who post on the Internet) are a big-headed lot. They think AWFULLY highly of themselves. I'd bet you could draw concentric rings around Baltimore, and chart people's attitudes based on their proximity. The closer to Baltimore, the more "elite" these guys think they are. So, the answer to the original question is "yes." (For the record, I think it also works in the opposite. For example, I have never met a Canadian player who was a jerk. Every Canadian player I've ever met has been a joy to play against.)

syr8766 your reply was completely OTT in no way relating to margaritas, bikini clad vixens, or low down dirty blood angel players. Now if you had discussed (ala Miami Vice style) why all the Florida players seemed to have a lot of "talcum" powder on their shirts and kept smoking those fat cubans after every game, or why the North East players all wore leather jackets and kept saying "you's guys" then it would be relevant. Please adjust your future replies accordingly

On the topic: Yes. You can characterize a whole region of players by one or two vocal posters. Case in point:
I live in the Pacific Northwest. All gamers here are hopelessly addicted to porn and 80's europop music. We just got the internet here about 2 months ago so you guys should see us get a lot more vocal.

Sounds like worthy goals, except for the Europop of course. Europop is evil like Saddam Hussein or N Sinc. But not like Barney.

My take on the original question:
Sure, you can characterize an entire region of players by one or two vocal posters. Doesn't mean your assumption is correct, but you could do it.

xtapl (going back to a post from last page) beleive me as a Canadian I know there are jerks and I have played them all. I have a pretty good time playing but I find in Canada the biggest hot heads are those who work at GW. They are all mighty all knowing big wings that tried to tell me once that if you move a model 4" then go to measure distance for shooting and realize you would be better off if you moved the 6" you can move the other 2" because you still had not moved your full movement

Nice. We could probably start a whole new thread about wierdness witnessed at GW stores. I was witness to a game a few months ago where it looked like the employee was teaching a few kids how to play. They all had probably 200 points of stuff they had made and were involved in a mega-battle. The problem is he would keep having to help customers and effectively pause the game multiple times. The kids were just standing around waiting for him for half of the time. So, I decide to step in and take over as ref, or dungeon master, or moderator, or whatever. During my medling we got through 2 turns in the time it took them to get through about 1 before I showed up. The employee came back and commented on how we were playing wrong because one of the kids had just moved 6" and fired twice at 12." I explained that he was rapid-firing. He only replied with "but they moved." That, and his confusion about mixed armour made me feel bad for these kids. I mean if I know more than them about the rules we are in serious trouble. If I know more than a below average barnyard animal we are in trouble. Won't somebody think of the children!?
